    Abstract: A process for obtaining solid alkali metal aluminates from an alkali metal aluminate aqueous solution by spray drying an alkali metal aluminate aqueous solution having an alkali metal oxide concentration of 1 to 6 mols per liter and an alkali metal oxide to alumina molar ratio of greater than 1. Also disclosed is an apparatus employed for effecting spray drying in which a spray drier of unidirectional flow is employed whose longitudinal axis is substantially horizontally disposed.
