  • Publication number: 20240078770
Abstract: A VR system for vehicles that may implement methods that address problems with vehicles in motion that may result in motion sickness for passengers. The VR system may provide virtual views that match visual cues with the physical motions that a passenger experiences. The VR system may provide immersive VR experiences by replacing the view of the real world with virtual environments. Active vehicle systems and/or vehicle control systems may be integrated with the VR system to provide physical effects with the virtual experiences. The virtual environments may be altered to accommodate a passenger upon determining that the passenger is prone to or is exhibiting signs of motion sickness.

  • Patent number: 9280856
Abstract: A method generates a useful life indication of a lubricating fluid in an engine. Initially, a quantity of use of an engine and a time of use of the engine are measured. A useful life indication of a lubricating fluid in the engine is generated based upon a first relationship between the quantity of use of an engine and the time of use of the engine when an operating characteristic is at or below a predetermined amount, such as the average speed of a vehicle containing the engine. The useful life indication of the lubricating fluid in the engine is generated based upon a second relationship between the quantity of use of an engine and the time of use of the engine when the operating characteristic is above the predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 5512789
Abstract: A control for electrically heated catalysts in a motor vehicle catalytic converter governs a switch for alternatively coupling an alternator output to the motor vehicle battery and a heating element of the catalytic converter. The control monitors electrical power delivered to the catalytic converter, preferably as a function of engine speed, field current and alternator output voltage, to infer actual temperature and compare it with the desired temperature at which the electrically heated catalyst is intended to operate. The control also preferably includes a field current adjuster to improve the power output to the catalytic converter when the switch couples the alternator output to the electrically heated catalyst. A switch actuator responsive to detection of the power delivered to the catalytic converter at a predetermined threshold actuates a switch to return the alternator to a charging connection with the vehicle battery.

  • Patent number: 5375414
Abstract: An automotive internal combustion engine is equipped with a hydrocarbon adsorber for the purpose of controlling the emission of unburned hydrocarbons from the vehicle's tailpipe. Regeneration of the adsorber is achieved by an electronic engine controller operating a purge air system for drawing desorbed hydrocarbon material into the engine's intake.

  • Patent number: 5271221
Abstract: An integral system controls exhaust gas recirculation and secondary air injection for an internal combustion engine. An air pump is coupled to the exhaust manifold through a series combination of a secondary air control valve, a check valve and an orifice for measuring flow. An intake manifold is coupled to the exhaust manifold through an exhaust gas recirculation flow control valve and the orifice. A vacuum source is selectively coupled to the secondary air control valve and the EGR flow control valve for introducing secondary air to the exhaust manifold or introducing exhaust gas recirculation to the intake manifold.
