    Abstract: This invention relates to methods for making a carpet having a secondary backing which is substantially impervious to liquids. The methods involve applying a repellent finish onto the secondary backing material and drying the finish.     Abstract: A data arbitration apparatus for combining data from a plurality of data paths, wherein data from the respective data paths are clocked by respective clock signals asynchronously and at different rates includes a multiplexer to which the respective data paths are coupled. The output of the multiplexer is applied to a "D"-type register having a dock input terminal coupled to one of the respective clock signals. The D-type register provides the combined data signal. A logic arrangement is coupled to the respective clock signals for providing control signals according to a hierarchy of importance of the signals occurring on the respective data paths. The control signals are coupled to condition the multiplexer to provide data samples from the respective data paths according to the established hierarchy.

    Abstract: Providing plastic insulation on an electrical conductor in which the conductor, enclosed in an oversize tube, is passed through a fluid and through an annular crystal of a piezoelectric material immersed in the fluid. During passage of tube and conductor, the crystal is subjected to electric current to cause alternating expansion and contraction of the crystal. Pressure shockwaves are produced by this expansion and contraction and the shockwaves are focussed upon the pass line of the tube and conductor to cause localized inward deformations of the tube into engagement with the conductor to form spaced annular depressions in the tube. In preferred arrangements, apparatus has an extruder immediately upstream of the crystal so that the plastic tube is in a heated and softened condition during its deformation. A focussing means is required in the apparatus for focussing shockwaves on the pass line.
