  • Publication number: 20160001939
Abstract: A closure (2) for a container body (4) comprises a base (6) with a hinged lid (8). The base has a depending skirt (10) and a flange (12). The horizontal flange (12) of the base is sealed to a rim of the container body by means of an induction heat sealed foil (14). The side wall of the container body is stepped inwardly and the skirt is deep and thin-walled and is provided with at least one weakened region to define a fracture point. Any leverage of the skirt will at least leave a mark and is liable to tear the skirt at the fracture point. Preferably the weakened regions are reduced wall section ribs are moulded into an interior face of the skirt at vulnerable areas such as the corners and centres of the side walls to provide additional tamper evidence.

  • Publication number: 20090218346
Abstract: A pre-foiled closure (2) for engaging over an open end of the container has an openable section (18) that can be pivoted relative to the non-openable section (6) of the closure. The openable section carries a foil retainer (24) which is welded to the foil. The closure is intended to be induction heat sealed to the rim of a container and can be opened by pivoting the openable section (18). This lifting action tears the foil and removes a portion of the foil attached to the foil retainer. This eliminates the need for a separate ring pull to open the closure.

  • Publication number: 20080035600
Abstract: A cap (2) suitable for use with a PET beverage bottle has an integral gas barrier provided by a plastics-coated aluminium foil disc (30) having its peripheral edge (32) embedded into the plastics internal or external surface (40) of a top panel (4) of the cap or of a valve (20). A plastics component (28) from which the cap (2) can be produced is described. The component (28) has a recess (48) defined by a sacrificial wall (50) formed inwardly of a resealing valve (20).

  • Publication number: 20070267383
Abstract: A closure (2) comprising a solid colour spout (6) and a transparent overcap (4) is adapted to be sealed to a container neck (50) by means of a double-sided foil (8). The overcap (4) has a depending valve (24), which engages with the spout (6) to hold these components together prior to assembly to the container. The spout (6) has a flange (10) adapted to seat on a rim (54) of the container neck and an annular wall (28) that is received within the container neck (50). The foil (8) is welded to the flange (10) and is also used to weld the closure (2) to a rim (54) of a container neck of standard threaded design. The overcap (4) can screw to an external thread on the container neck. The primary ex-factory seal is provided by welding the assembled closure to the neck. The secondary seal is provided by the engagement of the overcap valve (24) with the spout (6). The invention discloses an improved method of assembly.

  • Publication number: 20070095834
Abstract: A carton fitment (2) has a base flange (4) and a pour spout (6) closed by a screw on overcap (8). The base flange (4) has a barrier foil (30) coated on both sides with a plastic layer embedded in a sacrificial receiving wall (32) surrounding the periphery of the base flange (4).

  • Publication number: 20060289376
Abstract: Disclosed is an opening device for a foil closure can be fitted to a container body. The device comprises a spout (4) with a removable disc (10) attached to a pull-ring (12). The disc (10) is secured to the spout (4) by means of a frangible region (30). A foil (8) is sealed to a raised land (34) on a base of the disc (10). The pull ring is mounted to the disc (10) by means of legs so that it applies a force on a peninsula (50) of the disc, thereby reducing the length of the arc over which an initial pulling force is dissipated when the initial tear is being initiated reducing the force required to tear the foil (8) by up to 40%.

  • Publication number: 20050072816
Abstract: A closure for a container comprises a spout (22) containing a plastics coated foil (40) that is welded via one face to an inside flange (30) of the spout (22) and by means of a depending portion (42) on its opposite face to a side wall (10) of the container so that forces on the weld between foil portion (42) and the container when the closure is opened are in sheer rather than in tension. The closure can be used with a PET bottle or with other types of plastics or plastics containers.
