    Abstract: A temporary tarp-like barrier assembly which includes a plastic sheet thermally and mechanically fastened to loop-like hangers made from reclosable fasteners. The plastic sheet is sandwiched between engaging portions of the interlocking members of the hanger so that the plastic sheet is supportable from a pole or rod from the loop-like hanger. In addition, disclosed is a kit for providing a temporary tarp-like barrier which includes a plastic sheet and at least one loop-like hanger. The hanger is made from a reclosable fastener having a first portion and a second portion with each respectively having a plurality of interlocking members. The plastic sheet is sandwichable between engaging portions of the interlocking members of the hanger so that the plastic sheet is supportable from the loop-like hanger.

    Abstract: A frangible window panel mounting system for mounting an automotive window panel onto a window regulating mechanism for raising and lowering the window panel of a vehicle includes a U-shaped spring clip and a mounting flange for attaching the window panel to the window regulating mechanism. The U-shaped spring clip has a horizontal base member and first and second leg members extending upwardly from the base member, thereby forming a U-shaped channel for receiving a bottom edge of a window panel. The mounting flange is downwardly depending from, and coupled to the horizontal base member of the spring clip. The mounting flange is frangible so as to allow the spring clip to detach from a window regulating mechanism upon a side impact of the vehicle to thereby minimize the likelihood that the window panel will shatter.

The tape has oil absorbed into one or both lateral edges to provide flexibility, waterproofing, and a vapor barrier to prevent activation of the adhesive when the tape is rolled up and at least one colored ink applied to at least one edge of the tape in a predetermined discrete position which serves to code the tape.

    Abstract: An electric heating device for heating and deicing the wiper rest zone of a vehicle windshield includes a resistance heating wire of either circular or rectangular cross-section attached to the exterior surface of the windshield along the lower edge thereof and outside the normal range of vision therethrough by means of an electrically non-conductive tape extending lengthwise of the wire. An arcuate or trapezoidal cross-section layer of electrically non-conductive sealant completely covers the tap and wire to provide water tight encapsulation thereof. The adhesive tape may be 4 provided with holes to allow the sealant to penetrate therethrough and form a mechanical interlock between the tape and windshield. The wiper blade is adapted to contact the sealant layer. The device may also be applied to the lower edge of the rear or side windows of a vehicle to melt ice or snow which may accumulate thereat.

    Abstract: An improved mounting system for attaching an automotive window panel to a window regulating mechanism for raising and lowering the window panel as a mounting bracket for connecting the window panel to the window regulating mechanism. The mounting bracket has a horizontal base member and a pair of leg members extending upwardly from the base member, thereby forming a U-shaped channel for receiving a bottom edge of the window panel. Each of the upwardly extending leg members has at least one opening therein for receiving a curable adhesive applied between the bottom edge of the window panel and the mounting bracket to adhesively hold the window panel in the generally U-shaped channel. The curable adhesive flows into the at least one opening to form a supplemental mechanical interlock between the mounting bracket and the window panel upon curing.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a retention system for use with a curable adhesive for retaining a glass window pane supported on a flange of an automotive vehicle body. The system has a glass window pane secured to the inner surface of a moulding. A flange is spaced a first distance from the outer surface of the moulding, and this flange is spaced a second distance from the rear surface of the moulding. The rear surface of the molding contains a trapezoidal or conical shaped recess. A curable adhesive is received within the first spaced distance, the second spaced distance and the trapezoidal or conical shaped recess to form a mechanical interlock within this recess.

    Abstract: An impact-absorbing vehicle safety bar assembly, mountable within the cavity of a vehicle panel includes a resilient, generally curvilinear bar having two opposite ends, which is outwardly bowed with respect to the vehicle interior. Upon impact, the bar tends to deform from its normally bowed condition to a flattened condition, as a result of which its ends are pressed against the sidewalls of the vehicle panel and, in turn, the vehicle pillars, thereby transferring the external impact load laterally towards its ends and, in turn, to the vehicle panel and pillars. This serves to strengthen the vehicle panel and summarize the possibility of inward implosion or caving in of the panel and concomitant harm to the vehicle occupants.

    Abstract: An assembly for mounting a window panel adapted to be raised and lowered by a mechanism is mounted within an automobile door. The automobile door is of the type having a peripheral frame extending upwardly and toward the interior of the vehicle from the window line of the door. The peripheral frame is adapted for supporting the outer periphery of the window panel when the window is in a fully raised position. The apparatus includes a window panel receiving element which is placed along the bottom of the window and has a pair of opposed sides having a first end thereof adapted to be fixedly attached to the inside and outside surface of the window panel. The receiving element has a second end, connected to the first end by a flexible connecting portion. The second end has a pair of downwardly extending leg portions adapted to resiliently engage a window engagement element on the mechanism for raising and lowering the window panel, thereby coupling the window to the mechanism.

    Abstract: A rubber sealing strip for use in conjunction with a curable adhesive for retaining an automotive window on a flange body pael in an automotive vehicle body has a cross section which allows improved retention of the window on the vehicle body. A flange on the flange body panel has an outer surface on which the window is retained by the curable adhesive. The rubber sealing strip has a first surface engaging an inner surface of the window and a second surface, opposite the first surface, engaging the flange. The first window engaging surface is wider than the second surface engaging the flange. The sealing strip has first and second side surfaces extending between the first and second surfaces forming a generally triangular cross-section. Upon assembly of the window to the flange, the sealing strip deforms in a manner wherein only a limited area of the flange is covered.

    Abstract: In a window pane mounting arrangement, there is proposed an improved window moulding which can be neatly fitted to a clearance defined between the edge of the window pane and the peripheral flange of the window opening. The window moulding comprises an elongate band portion adapted to cover the clearance and a leg portion depending from the inboard surface of the band portion and disposed in the clearance. The improvement consists of locating the leg portion closer to the window pane so that the overlying portion of the band which extends from the leg to the window pane is of a nominal extent and thus does not manifest crimping when the moulding is bent through small angles.

A weather-sealing adhesive compound placed along the confronting edges of said window pane and window opening to complete a weatherproof installation of said window pane.

    Abstract: A window pane is hung along one edge of a window frame by a flexure mechanism arranged to permit pivotal movement of the pane about an axis oriented along the corresponding edge of the frame. An over centered handle latch is mounted on the lower edge of the frame and is operable to move the window pane between an open and closed position. A resilient hinge connects the handle latch directly to the pane so as to enable the handle latch and pane to have relative elastic movement during movement into and also in both the closed and open condition.
