  • Patent number: 5207355
Abstract: A dispensing pouch comprises a pair of superimposed panels sealed together to define a reservoir, adapted to contain a high viscosity liquid therein. A spout is formed on a lower end of the pouch and has a pump disposed therein that defines a charging chamber, communicating with the reservoir, to retain a pre-measured charge of the liquid therein. The liquid is discharged from the charging chamber in response to the external application of pumping pressure onto an outer side of the spout. The pouch is adapted for mounting in a dispensing unit, having a dual-action pressure plate, for periodically pumping and dispensing the pre-measured charge of liquid from the charging chamber of the pump. The pump is preferably defined by a separate insert, sandwiched between the panels of the pouch. A method for making the pouch is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5000350
Abstract: A pair of superimposed panels are heat sealed together to define a reservoir in a dispenser pouch, adapted to contain a liquid therein. A spout is formed in offset relationship on a lower end of the pouch and defines a charging chamber that communicates with the reservoir to retain a pre-measured charge of the liquid therein. The spout terminates at a normally closed valve that opens when a predetermined external and downward pumping pressure is applied to the spout. A retention band may be secured transversely across on outer side of one of the panels to retain the spout when it is reverse-bent and slipped thereunder. The pouch is adapted for mounting in a dispensing unit having a dual-action pressure plate for pumping and dispensing the pre-measured charge of liquid from the spout.

  • Patent number: 4962797
Abstract: A method for separating a pair of plastic bags, connected together at a transversely disposed parting line, comprises the steps of intermittently moving the pair of bags along a path disposed in a horizontal plane, stopping the bags and placing the parting line over an opening extending transversely relative to the path and positioned between a pair of platens, clamping the pair of bags to the platens and severing the parting line to separate the pair of bags from each other by moving a cutting blade in a horizontal direction and transversely through the opening.

  • Patent number: 4893733
Abstract: A bag filling machine, adapted to fill a plastic bag with a liquid product through a gland secured to the bag, comprises a filling head including a fill tube having a piston reciprocally mounted therein for selectively filling the bag with the product. A replaceable nozzle is positioned at an outlet of the fill tube and is releasably attached thereto. An annular seal is secured on a distal end of the nozzle for engaging an annular bearing surface of the gland in sealing contact therewith. Thus, nozzles, having seals and flow passages of varied diameters, may be selectively attached to the fill tube to accommodate glands having varied diameters.

  • Patent number: 4892124
Abstract: A bag filling machine, adapted to fill a plastic bag with a liquid product through a gland secured to the bag, comprises a conveyor for intermittently moving a series of the bags along a path. Adjacent pairs of the bags are connected together at a severable parting line, extending transversely relative to the path, and a cutting apparatus is adapted to sever the parting line. The apparatus comprises generally horizontally disposed first and second platens, spaced apart to define an opening therebetween, and extending transversely relative to the path of movement of the bags. Clamping bars are movably mounted above the platens to engage and clamp each adjacent pair of leading and trailing bags to the platens and to position the severable parting line over the opening defined between the platens. A cutter is slidably mounted in the apparatus for severing the parting line connecting the bags together.

  • Patent number: 4865091
Abstract: A bag filling machine is adapted to fill a plastic bag with a liquid product through a gland secured to the bag. A carriage assembly is mounted on a stationary frame of the machine and comprises a conveyor for moving the bag along a path to a filling station, including a fill tube adapted for alignment with the gland to fill the bag with the liquid product. The carriage assembly is adjustably mounted on the frame whereby the carriage assembly, along with the conveyor and filling station, can be moved side-to-side on the frame to accommodate bags having their glands disposed at varied preset positions thereon.

  • Patent number: 4700744
Abstract: In a bag-in-box fluid dispensing system including a bag fitment sealed over an opening in the fluid bag, a normally closed valved intermediate element sealed in the bag fitment, and a normally closed valved dispenser removably coupled to the valved intermediate element, the intercoupling of the intermediate element and the valved dispenser causing the valves in each unit to open for the passage of fluid from the fluid bag, an improved intermediate element having but two components, the improved element including a housing having a long skirt for passing through the bag fitment and into the fluid bag to prevent blocking of the bag opening, a valve set formed by the deformation of a circular opening in the end of the housing, and a normally closed axially movable valve member for mating with the valve seat and having a valve spring bias provided by the deformation of a novel hemispherical resilient member latched in the bore of the housing.
