Patent number: 8155798Abstract: A device and method for determining a roll angle of a motorcycle are disclosed. The method includes the step of acquiring a rolling rate ({dot over (?)}M) of the motorcycle. A first roll angle variable (?1) is determined from the rolling rate ({dot over (?)}M). At least one vehicle movement dynamics characteristic variable is determined from a velocity (v), a rotational speed ({dot over (?)}M), and/or an acceleration ({umlaut over (z)}M, ÿM) of the motorcycle. A second roll angle variable (?2) is determined from one or more vehicle movement dynamics characteristic variables. The roll angle (?E) is calculated on the basis of the roll angle variables (?1, ?2).Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2007Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: Continental Teves AG & Co. oHGInventors: Patrick Seiniger, Hermann Winner, Friedrich Kolb, Vladimir Koukes, Peter Olejnik, Alfred Eckert, Michael Kremer

Patent number: 8140236Abstract: A brake system for motorcycles and a method for regulating the brake pressure in a motorcycle having an anti-lock function and having an integral brake function are provided. By means of the integral brake function, front wheel brake means are actuated in connection with brake actuation at a rear wheel (RW), and a brake pressure (psollvr) in front wheel brake circuit is regulated on the basis of a predefined dependency (f) of a pressure (pmessHZ RW) caused by the brake actuation at the master brake cylinder of a rear wheel brake circuit. In the event of an anti-lock function at the rear wheel (RW), a higher brake pressure (psollvr) is set in the front wheel brake circuit than is set at the present pressure (pmessHZ RW) at the master brake cylinder on the basis of the dependency (f) in the absence of anti-lock regulating intervention.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2007Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Continental Teves AG & Co. oHGInventors: Alfred Eckert, Peter Olejnik, Ralf Reviol

Patent number: 6993449Abstract: The present invention is directed to monitoring the loss of pressure in one or more tires by detecting the angular speed variations of one or more wheels of the vehicle over a specified wheel revolution period and analyzing the vibration of the speed various. Changes in the frequency are related to pressure loss, which is indicated to the driver, for example, by displaying the tire pressure loss information on a display.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2004Date of Patent: January 31, 2006Assignee: Continental Teves, Inc.Inventors: Andreas Koebe, Yongle Lou, Peter Olejnik, Ines Runge

Patent number: 6895357Abstract: A new method for determining an actual steering wheel angle is provided that does not require re-calculation of a steering center upon each ignition of the vehicle. Accordingly, the vehicle dynamic controller may be activated very quickly after ignition, while a less costly relative steering wheel angle sensor may be employed.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2002Date of Patent: May 17, 2005Assignee: Continental Teves, Inc.Inventors: Yongle Lou, Ralf Endress, Peter Olejnik, Michael C. Patent number: 5836153Abstract: A method for controlling the fuel-air ratio of an internal combustion engine in which the output signal of a first lambda probe, which is arranged in front of a catalytic converter in the exhaust pipe of the internal combustion engine, is fed to a controller. The controller gives off a setting variable for the fuel-air ratio, and a further signal which is obtained from the output signal of a second lambda probe arranged behind the catalytic converter is fed to the controller. In order to permit an accurate and adjustable control which further improves the fuel-air ratio in the sense of a reduction of the exhaust emission, a hold time is obtained on the output signal of the second lambda probe as a function of the time of the reversal of the output signal of the first lambda probe, whereby the output signal of the controller is shifted in time.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1996Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: VDO Adolf Schindling AGInventors: Ulrich Staufenberg, Peter Olejnik

Patent number: 5771687Abstract: A method for the calibration of a lambda probe in an internal combustion engine in which the lambda probe is arranged in front of and/or behind a catalytic converter in order to control a fuel-air mixture of the internal combustion engine. The lambda probe gives off signal values during a measurement period as a function of the exhaust gas produced from the fuel-air mixture. In order to compensate for the lack of sharpness resulting from a manufacturing process of the lambda probe and an aging of the probe, a method is proposed for the calibration of the lambda probe in which the catalytic converter is supplied with an overly rich fuel-air mixture. During this time the corresponding signal measurement values of the lambda probe are measured independently of other control signals. Upon a further processing of the probe signal, a correction value is formed therefrom, which correction value is fed to the probe signal in the controlled operating state of the internal combustion engine.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1996Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: VDO Adolf Schindling AGInventors: Ulrich Staufenberg, Peter Olejnik

Patent number: 5761901Abstract: A method of checking the efficiency of a catalytic converter in an internal combustion engine in which a ratio is formed from the amplitude of the output signal of a lambda probe arranged behind the catalytic converter and from the amplitude of the output signal of a lambda probe arranged in front of the catalytic converter. The ratio is compared with a threshold value, the catalytic converter being recognized as deficient if the ratio is less than the threshold value. In order to compensate for the lack of sharpness resulting from the manufacturing process and the aging of the probe, the method provides for determining the efficiency of the catalyst in which an extreme value of the corresponding probe output signal is determined for each probe after each probe reversal.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1996Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: VDO Adolf Schindling AGInventors: Ulrich Staufenberg, Peter Olejnik

Patent number: 4225820Abstract: There is disclosed an apparatus for diagnosing milk secretion disorders in animals such as cows. The apparatus is based upon an electric detection of deviations from the properties of a standard milk secretion, and comprises a holder carrying a diagnostic dish divided by partition walls into a number of diagnostic units corresponding to the number of teats of the animal. The diagnostic units are each provided with a measuring probe exposed to the mouths of scavenging nozzles and with a circuit for evaluating the milk quality as by its electrical conductivity. The outlet of said circuit is connected to the inlet of a display indicating, for example, when the quality of the milk in each diagnostic unit exceeds a predetermined value.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1979Date of Patent: September 30, 1980Assignee: Vyzkumny ustav veterinarniho lekarstviInventors: Duson Rysanek, Bohumir Kotrc, Jaroslav Hamalcik, Peter Olejnik
