  • Publication number: 20100050975
Abstract: A method for producing a cast part using a casting machine which comprises a least one casting mould that can be filled with a casting melt. According to the method, the casting is filled with a casting melt, the melt is left to completely solidify and the cast part is then removed from the casting. The casting is filled with melt by the casting machine without the use of pressure at a fill speed of less than 10 m per second in the gating and is then squeezed in the casting mould at a casting pressure greater than 100.

  • Publication number: 20100051220
Abstract: Expandable microspheres formed by suspension polymerization using a shot growth method are provided. The microspheres are formed of a continuous, gas impermeable shell surrounding a blowing agent. The shell includes a first polymer layer formed from primary monomers and a second layer that includes a chemically reactive monomer or a high Tg monomer. To form the microspheres, the primary monomers are polymerized in a reaction vessel to an approximate 90% polymerization, at which time a secondary monomer that is either a monomer having a Tg of at least 85° C. or a chemically reactive monomer, is added to the reaction vessel to drive the polymerization reaction to completion. The outer layer thus contains either a larger amount of the high Tg monomer or a chemically reactive monomer that possesses the ability to covalently bond a cationic species. The microspheres may be used in papermaking processes to increase the paper bulk.

  • Publication number: 20100057498
Abstract: A method includes receiving in a computer an electronic file that represents a claim paid by an insurance company. The electronic file indicates whether the claim involves another insurance company, and whether the other company has admitted or is likely to admit liability for the claim. The computer makes a triage decision to send a demand letter to the other company and then defer action if the other insurance company is likely to admit or has admitted liability. Otherwise, the computer sends the demand letter and routes the file for immediate follow-up.

  • Publication number: 20100057619
Abstract: A payment authentication service authenticates the identity of a payer during online transactions. The authentication service of the present invention allows a card issuer to verify a cardholder's identity using a variety of authentication methods, such as the use of passwords. Also, the only system participant requiring a certificate is the issuing financial institution. One embodiment of the invention for authenticating the identity of a cardholder during an online transaction involves querying an access control server to determine if a cardholder is enrolled in the payment authentication service, requests a password from the cardholder, verifies the password, and notifies a merchant whether the cardholder's authenticity has been verified. In another aspect of the invention, a chip card and the authentication service independently generate cryptograms that must match in order for the service to verify that the correct chip card is being used by the cardholder.

  • Publication number: 20100058208
Abstract: A system and method in a virtual universe system for tagging objects in one virtual world so that avatars in other virtual worlds can search for, review, purchase, and exchange real goods and virtual objects. In a virtual universe having more than one virtual world, an object in one virtual world may be tagged with a seller identification, an advertising location, an item type, and details of the item. The object may then be externalized to other virtual worlds within the virtual universe for searching.

  • Patent number: 7672941
Abstract: A deterministic finite state machine is operated to detect any one of a plurality of digital signatures each corresponding to a succession of characters and each defined by a sequence of states in the state machine. The machine is organized such that for each state after the first in any sequence there are not more than two allowed exit transitions of which one is to a default state. Input characters are examined to determine a transition from a current state of the machine to a next state. When the machine responds to an input character to perform a transition to the default state, the input character is re-examined to determine the next state of the state machine. The reduction in transitions saves considerable space in memory.
