  • Patent number: 9143988
Abstract: A system and method of supporting packet-switched handover of a mobile station (MS) from a GERAN/UTRAN cell to a Generic Access Network (GAN) cell within a GAN. If the MS is within coverage of the GAN cell, the MS registers within the GAN, triggering initiation of the packet-switched handover from the GERAN/UTRAN cell to the GAN cell. A preparation phase is then conducted for executing the packet-switched handover. The preparation phase includes identifying the MS context as part of the preparation phase and activating the GA-PSR TC towards the MS. Next, the packet-switched handover is executed, resulting in the MS switching to GAN mode. The MS then begins transferring packets via the GAN cell. The system and method also supports a packet-switched handover from the GAN cell to the GERAN/UTRAN cell.

  • Patent number: 8787317
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to improved systems and methods for handing over a UE from a source node to a target node. In some embodiments, the target node receives UL and DL count information directly from the UE being handed over, rather than from the source node or from a core network node.

  • Patent number: 8346242
Abstract: The present invention overcomes the problem of S1 interface failure by redirecting user equipments to another radio basestation, or another RAT. This redirecting may be on a UE-by-UE basis, i.e. when a connection request is received, redirecting that UE, or may involve redirecting all UEs in a cell by broadcasting modified system information. The redirecting may be such that future traffic load, for example as caused by UEs performing tracking area updates, is minimized, by instructing UEs to redirect after a randomized period of time, or by locking the cell after a randomized period of time, for example. In yet further embodiments of the invention, the cell may be locked after a certain number of connection requests have been received. In this way, particularly busy cells can be locked sooner than would otherwise be the case.

  • Publication number: 20110268083
Abstract: In a method and system for transferring a voice call in the packet switched domain to a system supporting both packet switched and circuit switched voice calls, target system, i.e. the system to which an ongoing voice call is transferred is in control of deciding if an ongoing voice call in the originating system should continue in the circuit switched domain or the packet switched domain. In addition the system is enabled to reserve resources in the system to receive the voice call before handing over the voice call.

  • Publication number: 20090170516
Abstract: The present invention relates to control of GAN-enabled mobile stations operating in a cell of the cellular radio communication network. A signal is transmitted S514 in a cell in a cellular radio communication network, which comprises information that indicates to GAN-enabled mobile stations (MS, MS201) that they may find GAN coverage in the geographical area covered by that cell.

  • Publication number: 20080233976
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for avoiding collision between first access attempts of at least two mobile stations being paged in a cell of a mobile communication network, wherein a paging message in a downlink channel comprises a pre-determined access order for the mobile stations being paged, whereby a first access attempt in a pre-determined TDMA frame in an uplink channel according to said access order is sent from the mobile stations being paged.

  • Publication number: 20060171369
Abstract: A multimedia broadcast multicast type service (MBMS) is offered to mobile subscribers. A RAN node communicates with one or more radio base stations that transmit and receive information with mobile subscriber terminals, some of which subscribe to the MBMS. The RAN node communicates with multiple core network packet data nodes that receive MBMS data for delivery to the RAN node. One of the multiple core network packet data nodes is selected to provide the MBMS data associated with the MBMS to the RAN node. The others are instructed not to provide the MBMS data, but they still perform other MBMS support functions for their mobile terminals such as MBMS charging, etc.

  • Patent number: 6125106
Abstract: Existing communication connections in a cellular telephone base station can become allocated to communication equipment in a less than optimal fashion. To address this problem a detector identifies when an existing communication connection routed through the base station is terminated. The detector informs a processor which calculates a channel allocation for the remaining communication connections currently routed through the base station which optimizes channel utilization. The optimal channel allocation is then implemented through intra-cell handovers.
