  • Patent number: 4436211
Abstract: A safety package including a container with a unitary screw type cap in which the container has a locking lug engageable with one of a plurality of ratchet teeth located around the circumference of the cap. The ratchet teeth permit turning movement of the cap in a closing direction until the cap is squeezed and deformed at diametrically opposed points to move the engaged ratchet tooth out of engagement with the locking lug to permit turning movement of the cap to an opening position. A second locking lug is offset from a point diametrically spaced from the first locking lug so that one or the other of the lugs engages a ratchet tooth thereby doubling the effectiveness of the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4371088
Abstract: A tamper indicating child resistant closure for containers of two pieces in the form of a pair of telescoped caps. Opening movement requires deformation of the outer cap relative to the inner cap. Such deformation acts to break away an indicator element formed integrally with the outer cap to form an opening giving evidence that the closure has been put in condition for opening.

  • Patent number: 4334639
Abstract: A child-resistant dispensing closure fabricated from resilient material which has an inverted cup-shaped body, an axially protruding nozzle and a saucer-shaped lid for closing the nozzle. The lid is connected to the body by a flexible hinge which is unitary with the body and the lid and which is located at one edge of the body. There are cooperating means for retaining the lid in closed position overlying the body and the nozzle, the catch means being located diametrically opposite the hinge. The lid has a maximum diameter no greater than the diameter of the top of the body. The catch means may be at least partially disengaged by moving the lid laterally relative to the body in a direction transverse to the diameter extending between the hinge and the catch means which also protrudes a portion of the lid radially beyond the top of the body. By grasping the protruding portion of the lid, the lid then may be swung angularly away from closing position.

  • Patent number: 4310105
Abstract: A child-resistant dispensing closure consisting of a one-piece molding of resilient material that comprises an inverted cup-shaped cap having a central dispensing opening and a saucer shaped lid that is integrally hinged to the cap at one edge thereof for movement to and from an inverted, closing position closely over-lying the cap. The lid has an element which closes the dispensing opening and engages in telescoping relationship therewith. The cap and lid have overlapping catch means for retaining the lid in closing position. In the closing position, no part of the lid extends beyond the margin of the cap so there is nothing which a small child can grasp in order to swing the lid to gain access to the content material. The hinge is double acting and provides not only for angular movement to and from the closing position but also for lateral movement of the lid relative to the cap against the resilience of the engaged element and opening for disengaging the catch means.

  • Patent number: 4288000
Abstract: A tightly fitting lid for a pail or bucket has a dispensing opening for discharge of the material contained in the pail and a child-resistant closure for the opening. The lid and pail constitute a package for particulate material. The lid and pail have co-operating rib and recess for retaining the lid on the pail. The lid opening is provided by a short "wide-mouth" neck which is threaded to mate with threads on the closure. The lid and closure have at least one interengaging stop and lug, respectively, which prevent the closure from being unscrewed. The closure can be removed after it is radially deformed in order to disengage the lug from the stop. The diameter of the closure is such that the closure lug cannot be disengaged from the stop by a child of tender years whose hand is too small to span the closure. The lid also has a plurality of horizontally extending webs surrounding and spaced from the closure for supporting a superposed pail.

  • Patent number: 4284200
Abstract: A one-piece child-resistant dispensing closure for a container which has an open end. The closure has a skirt which mates with the end of the container and a top which spans the space defined by the skirt. Preferably there are two dispensing openings through the top, each of which is surrounded by an upwardly extending rim. The closure also comprises a lid for each opening and a hinge for each lid. The hinges and lids are integral parts of the closure. The lids have similar rims which fit around the rims on the closure top when the lids are swung over to close the dispensing openings. In the closed position, ribs on the edges of the pairs of opposed rims snap over each other and ears on the inner sides of the lids are closely spaced from a fulcrum on the closure top. The engagement of the ribs holds the lids closed. Pry means, such as a coin or blade, may be inserted between the fulcrum and a lid ear to pry the particular lid open.

  • Patent number: 4171057
Abstract: A child-resistant medicine vial, or the like consisting of a container and a cap therefor. The container has a hollow body and a tubular neck and the cap has a disc-like top and two concentric depending skirts. The inner skirt is adapted to be inserted into the open end of the container neck. The container has an outwardly extending annular flange which is spaced below the open end of the neck. The outer cap skirt is relatively flexible and extends telescopingly over the open end of the container, the bottom edge of the skirt reaching down into contact with or at least close to the flange. At least one upwardly extending ramp on the flange is engageable by a lug on the lower margin of the outer cap skirt. When the outer cap skirt is not stressed, the lug lies radially outside of the circular path defined by the ramp.

  • Patent number: 3946889
Abstract: A tamperproof child resistant closure for a medicine bottle or the like. The closure has an inner threaded cap and an outer driver nested over the cap. There is a first co-operating, one-way clutch means on the driver and cap for screwing the cap onto the bottle. There is a second one-way, co-operating clutch means comprising an abutment on the outer wall of the cap skirt and an inwardly movable segment of the driver skirt. There is a removable sector portion of the driver top that is frangibly connected to the upper end of the segment and to the driver top which initially prevents inward movement of the segment for engaging the second clutch means.
