Patent number: 6296086Abstract: The present invention discloses a brake device for the wheels of an automotive vehicle which includes a wheel-sided brake drum and a vehicle-sided mud guard that engages in a non-contact manner with a circumferential web into an annular recess in the end surface of the brake drum opposite the mud guard in order to provide a labyrinth-type seal. In conventional brake devices, the mud guard along with a welded annular web typically has a two-part design. In contrast thereto, the present invention proposes that the mud guard be punched and deep drawn from sheet metal and that the circumferential web be integrally designed with the mud guard by noncutting shaping.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2000Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Assignee: Continental Teves AG & Co., OHGInventors: Gerhard Reuber, Rolf Weiler, Claus-Peter Panek

Patent number: 5311793Abstract: A brake cable fixing device for the expanding lock of a parking brake is described making possible an easy installation of a brake cable. A tapered cable end nipple of the brake cable is guided during installation by a funnel-shaped entry space, constituted by the outer edges of the fork of an actuating lever and by an elastic leg of a securing element positioned on a forked pressure bracket. Insertion of the cable and nipple deflects the elastic leg of the securing element, allowing the end nipple to pass by, and the restoring force of the elastic leg urges the cable end nipple into position in the fork of the actuating lever. The securing element is described as a spring clasp, having a pair of spring legs connected at a vertex, one spring leg constituting the elastic leg, the other spring leg engaging the endwall of the pressure bracket to mount the securing element thereto.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1992Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Claus-Peter Panek, Jurgen Musolf, Uwe Wohlmann, Wulf Post

Patent number: 5257679Abstract: A spot-type disc brake in which a two part brake housing forms a central radial cavity open at the outside which allows the brake shoes to be removed through the cavity without disassembly of the housing. The brake shoes are engaged by surfaces on short height projection pairs protruding into the cavity from either side, the surfaces machined with a radiused shape concentric with the actuator cylinder bores to facilitate manufacture. The short height allows the radiused shape without preventing removal of the brake shoes. In a first embodiment, the projections are also formed with outer tangential surfaces, with surfaces on the brake shoes urged thereagainst with a retained spring. In a second embodiment, a holding pin extends across the central cavity and through bores at the outside of each brake shoe, a retainer spring engaged with the holding pin and brake shoes.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1992Date of Patent: November 2, 1993Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Rolf Weiler, Uwe Bach, C. Patent number: 5058714Abstract: An apparatus for a drum brake for mechanically actuatable self-energizing internal shoe-type drum brakes for automotive vehicles. A pair of brake shoes (4, 5) is arranged on a brake carrier plate (27) at a thrust member (6) and furnished with tension springs (7, 10). A mechanical actuating apparatus acts between a pair of brake shoe ends (4, 5) disposed opposite each other and prestressed by springs (7, 10). The mechanical actuating apparatus presses the brake shoes (4, 5) for braking against a brake drum (1) enclosing them and a first automatically clearance compensating adjusting device is arranged between the brake shoe ends as well as a second adjusting device arranged at at least one brake shoe web (12) supporting the brake shoe (5).Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1990Date of Patent: October 22, 1991Assignee: Alfred Teves GmbHInventors: Rolf Weiler, Claus-Peter Panek, Wolfgang Endler, Uwe Hendrich
