  • Patent number: 12487132
Abstract: A monitoring system for monitoring the temperature of a battery module having a plurality of battery cells, the monitoring system including an electric network including a plurality of thermistors, wherein each of the thermistors is thermally connected to a battery cell, a monitoring device that is adapted to measure a total resistance (Rtot) of the electric network including the plurality of thermistors and is further adapted to generate a signal in case of detecting that the value of the total resistance (Rtot) of the electric network traverses a predetermined threshold resistance value, wherein the monitoring system is adapted to determine a mean temperature (Tamb) of the battery module independently from the measurement of the total resistance (Rtot) of the electric network, and wherein the predetermined threshold resistance value is dependent on the mean temperature (Tamb) of the battery module.

  • Publication number: 20240170799
Abstract: A battery cell includes: a housing having a prismatic shape with a venting side and a terminal side that is different from the venting side; an electrode assembly inside the housing; a terminal arranged on the terminal side; and a venting valve on the venting side. The venting valve is configured to switch between a closed state and an open state. The venting valve, when in the open state, forms a vent opening in the venting side of the housing, and the vent opening is at least 15% of the total area of the venting side.

  • Patent number: 11846678
Abstract: A method and a system for validating a temperature sensor integrated into a battery system are disclosed. In one aspect, the method includes determining an internal resistance of at least one battery cell in thermal contact with the temperature sensor and determining a state of charge (SOC) of the at least one battery cell. The method also includes determining at least one reference temperature from a lookup table (LUT) or a functional relationship connecting the internal resistance, the SOC, and a temperature of a reference battery cell. The method further includes comparing the at least one reference temperature with at least one temperature measurement of the temperature sensor to determine a difference therebetween. The method additionally includes validating the temperature sensor based on whether the difference exceeds a preconfigured threshold.
