Abstract: A method for identifying edges of curbs in an environment of a mobile platform. The method includes: providing at least one optical image of the environment of the mobile platform; determining linear structures in the at least one optical image; providing a topographic profile of a ground surface of the environment of the mobile platform; projecting the linear structures into the topographic profile of the ground surface; verifying the edges of curbs by examining, on both sides of the projected linear structures, the topographic profile for altitude jumps corresponding to a curb structure; connecting the verified altitude jumps in order to identify the edges of the curbs.

Abstract: A method for motor vehicles for detecting the height of raised objects using a camera. The method includes: ascertaining object edge portions of the objects in the at least two items of image information; projecting the object edge portions of the objects from the camera onto a base which is calibrated for the camera; assigning the object edge portions to different objects and ascertaining a common object edge line; ascertaining lines of sight between the camera and the object edge line projected onto the base in at least two positions; ascertaining a point of intersection of the at least two lines of sight of the same objects in the same plane; and determining a height of the point of intersection above the calibrated base of the respective object.

The method includes recognizing at least one line segment that belongs to the curbstone with the aid of image data that are read in by an interface to a camera device of the vehicle. The line segment is projected onto a ground plane of the environment in order to generate a projected line segment. A subset of a plurality of three-dimensionally triangulated points in the environment of the vehicle is assigned to the line segment as a function of a position of the points relative to a position of the camera device, relative to a starting point of the projected line segment, and relative to an end point of the projected line segment. A flank plane of the curbstone is ascertained with the aid of the assigned points.
