  • Patent number: 10281571
Abstract: A radar system uses a rotating antenna array having rows that display dispersive properties while feeding multiple radiating elements. In some embodiments, the radiating elements are dual polarized. In at least one embodiment, beam spoiling may be used to generate an unfocused transmit beam that covers an entire elevation range of interest. Digital beam forming may be used during a receive mode to achieve a stack of narrow-width receive beams in elevation. Frequency scanning may also be used to achieve stacked beams in azimuth.

  • Patent number: 6281574
Abstract: A method for operating a microwave amplifier wherein a packaging arrangement is provided. The packaging arrangement includes: (i) a mounting thermally conducting mounting flange; (ii) an isomorphic, thermally conductive material disposed on the flange; (iii) a circuit comprising a semiconductor chip having a transistor arranged as the amplifier, such amplifier being adapted to operate at a nominal microwave frequency with a band of frequencies, disposed on a portion of a surface of the isomorphic, thermally conductive material, other surface portions of the thermally conductive material extending laterally beyond the portion of the material having the semiconductor chip disposed thereon; (iv) a corral having an aperture through an inner region thereof, the isothermal material being disposed within the aperture, such corral having an outer region thereon mounted to surface portions of the flange. The amplifier is biased for Class C operation.

  • Patent number: 5568105
Abstract: Spurious frequencies are suppressed in a transmitter by an RF pulse fall time controller circuit comprising a quadrature hybrid matched attenuator located between a predriver and the first stage of class "C" driver amplifiers. The circuit linearly attenuates RF pulses and slows pulse fall time. Operation of the circuit is initiated when the rising edge of a pretrigger starts a pretrigger generator which then triggers the application of current bias to the attenuator circuit. After a controlled period of time, the circuit decreases the forward current bias of PIN diodes in the attenuator thereby increasing the diodes' series resistance and increasing the attenuation of the RF pulses. This creates a slow pulse fall time thereby suppressing spurious emissions caused by parasitic ringing of the cascaded Class C common base transistor amplifiers in the transmitter.
