    Abstract: A process for the preparation of a thiophene derivative which is substituted at the beta-position by a bromine atom, which comprises reacting the corresponding beta-unsubstituted thiophene with an aromatic compound which is substituted with a bromine atom, in the presence of an alkali metal amide and a catalyst which is capable of forming a complex with the cation of the alkali metal amide.
