The coating layer of Ti1-xMex nitride has a microhardness equal to between about 2300 HV0.05 and about 2600 HV0.05, a face centered cubic crystal structure, and a lattice constant equal to between about 0.427 nanometers and about 0.453 nanometers.

Fourth, applying by chemical vapor deposition an alumina coating layer that has a thickness between greater than zero micrometers and about 5 micrometers. The first titanium-containing coating layer and the alumina coating layer makes up a coating sequence, and the method includes applying a plurality of the coating sequences by CVD.
