    Abstract: According to some embodiments, a system and method for dispensing a floor coating in a specified ratio of multiple components is disclosed. The system and method may set and maintain a desired ratio of the multiple components by controlling, with a controller, a drive rate of respective pumps configured for propelling the components from a reservoir to a mixer or a dispenser. The controller may be responsive to at least one of a measured actual drive rate, an environmental condition, an actual usage of each component, and an operational parameter of the system, for adjusting a drive rate of the respective pumps to compensate for discrepancies that may affect the ratio of the multiple components.

    Abstract: Titanium dioxide particles are dispersed in an aqueous medium with a polymeric latex which adsorbs to the surface of the titanium dioxide to give a low-viscosity slurry or pigment grind of composite titanium dioxide-polymeric latex particles. A high glass transition polymeric latex can be used as the dispersant, and a low glass transition temperature binder latex can be added. The zeta potential of the polymeric latex can be at least about 30 millivolts more negative than the zeta potential of the titanium dioxide. The adsorbed polymeric latex provides more optimal spacing of the titanium dioxide particles in films formed from coating compositions formulated using the composite particles, and consequently greater film opacity and hiding at a given pigment volume concentration.

The dispersion can be used to prepare fully formulated compositions. Products formulated using the aqueous dispersion can be prepared to give the same performance as products including inorganic material dispersed with conventional polyelectrolyte pigment dispersants, but with higher levels of inorganic material, or superior performance properties with like levels of inorganic material.

    Abstract: Described herein is a pigment paste for use in an aqueous paint comprising a film-forming latex polymer, a pigment and a dispersant copolymer. Also described is the dispersant copolymer which serves the function of dispersing the pigment in the preparation of the paste and maintaining the dispersion in the paste and paint made therefrom. The dispersant copolymer is such that its complex salt formed with Zn++ and ammonia is water-soluble at a pH of 9.6. The dispersant is a copolymer of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated monovinylidene carboxylic acid and at least one other ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The dispersant is particularly adapted to preparing paste for difficult-to-formulate paints such as paints with reactive pigments and paints requiring high levels of dispersant.

    Abstract: This invention is concerned with certain vinyl resin coating compositions in which the vinyl resin binder or film-forming component is normally dissolved in an organic solvent which is volatilized after application of the composition to the surface of substrates to be finished. The vinyl resin component is generally of high molecular weight and it is normally difficult to obtain a reasonable viscosity in the coating composition without excessive dilution with organic solvent and the necessity to apply a plurality of coats to obtain the desired protective thickness. The present invention has been found to alleviate or reduce this difficulty in the particular solution coating compositions with which it is concerned, namely thermoplastic vinyl or acrylic polymer solutions, polyvinyl acetals, and chlorinated polyisoprene containing about 64-65% chlorine.
