  • Patent number: 5496999
Abstract: A scanning probe microscope having numerous advantages is disclosed. Respective scanning force and scanning tunneling probes are removably mounted in the head using kinematic mounting techniques so that they may be substituted for one another without the need to adjust the cantilever deflection sensor. A linear position-sensitive photodetector in the deflection sensor eliminates further the need for adjustments. A motorized, non-stacked x,y coarse movement stage is kinematically positioned with respect to the base and features a minimized mechanical loop to reduce thermal and vibrational effects on the position of the sample. A z coarse movement stage positions the head kinematically with respect to the base and includes a motorized drive means which allows the height, tilt and pitch of the probe to be adjusted. The scanner includes x,y and z sample position detectors which provide an accurate measurement of the position of the sample with respect to the probe.

  • Patent number: 5248265
Abstract: A sealable interconnection assembly for electrically connecting a conductor on one side of a composite panel, where the interconnection assembly is below or essentially flush with the surface of the composite panel and the conductor, to a lead on another side of the panel through a hole in the panel and over a range in panel thicknesses, wherein a housing is adapted to span the range of panel thicknesses and is sealed within the hole, a contact spans a passageway in the housing to electrically connect the conductor with the lead and a boot encapsulates the contact lead termination so that the contact is sealed from outside contamination.

  • Patent number: 5188543
Abstract: A contact assembly for an electrical connector includes a rear contact and a transient suppression or filter component mounted on the rear contact in axial alignment therewith. A ground connection between the component and the shell of the connector is established by a ground contact extending from a ground plate. The grond contact engages the component as the contact is pushed into the connector. A retention member in the connector is arranged to the rear contact in the connector. A front contact is mounted on the other side of the ground plate from the rear contact and includes a resilient member extending from front contact to engage the rear contact when the rear contact is inserted into the connector, thereby establishing an electrical connection between the front and rear contacts.

  • Patent number: 5112253
Abstract: An arrangement for removably mounting filter or transient suppression components in a connector includes an insulator having a plurality of feedthrough contact openings and a plurality of openings for the components. The components are electrically connected to the contacts via fixed conductive clips in the component openings, the clips including integral spring members for engaging the feedthrough contacts. The components are also connected to a ground plate by spring members extending into the component openings for biasing each component against a respective clip, thereby permitting separate removal of each component and contact pin.
