  • Patent number: 6891291
Abstract: A fan for an electrical machine having discrete fan blades mounted for rotation with the machine rotor. Each blade has a unitary mounting plate and is secured to the machine rotor or to a carrier on the rotor shaft. The preferred blade has a concave surface facing axially of the rotor in one direction and a convex surface facing axially of the rotor in the other direction. The concave/convex surfaces are formed by two flat triangular surfaces joined along a common edge. The triangular structure is fatigue resistant, reducing, the likelihood of mechanical failure.

  • Patent number: 5476366
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a fan for an electric machine, the fan comprising a hub having a centrally located bore sized to receive the shaft of the machine, the bore having an axis which coincides with the shaft axis. The fan further comprises a plurality of angularly spaced fan blades which extend radially outwardly from the hub. The blades are formed separately from the hub and are secured to the hub by an improved interlocking joint arrangement. A series of hubs which are substantially identical except for the shaft bore diameter are provided, and a series of blades which are substantially identical except for the radial length are provided. Thus, a hub matching a specified shaft diameter, and a blade length matching a specified housing size, may be selected and assembled to match a machine.

  • Patent number: 4597555
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a mount for an electric motor, and comprises a sheet metal annular member adapted to support electric motor parts within it, a plurality of flexible sheet metal mounting lug members extending generally radially outwardly from the outer periphery of the annular member, each of said lug members including a flexible part and a mounting part that extends generally parallel to the adjacent part of said annular member, and a mechanical connection between each of the mounting parts and the annular member. Each mounting part and the adjacent part of the annular member form overlying sheets, and each mechanical connection is formed by portions of the sheets which are pierced and offset radially outwardly and form radially inner and outer bridges, the inner bridge being spread over the surface of the mounting part to interlock the parts together.Another aspect of this disclosure relates to a method of fastening flexible mounting lugs to a motor utilizing mechanical connections.

  • Patent number: 4491330
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a lip seal designed to seal a space between a rotatable shaft and a housing part around the shaft. The housing part is formed of relatively flat material and has a hole formed in it, through which the shaft extends. The seal includes a support band that is sized to have a tight interference fit on the shaft. Extending radially outwardly from the band are two opposed lips that form an annular groove therebetween. The seal is positioned with the housing part in the groove and the lips engaging opposite sides of the housing part. The two lips are constructed with a preload that causes them to sealingly engage the housing part when the housing part is positioned in the groove. The band rotates and makes a sealed connection with the shaft, and the two lips slide against the housing part and form seals therebetween.
