  • Publication number: 20090033146
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for operating a hydraulic vehicle brake system, having a brake pressure generator operable by a brake actuating device and essentially consisting of a master brake cylinder and a hydraulic booster connected upstream thereof which includes a booster chamber and a booster piston arranged therein, which latter for brake force boosting purposes, can be acted upon by a hydraulic pressure of a high-pressure accumulator that is chargeable by a hydraulic pump according to a sensor system which detects actuation and/or according to a pressure sensor sensing the hydraulic pressure that prevails in the master brake cylinder. In order to provide a safe fallback mode, upon failure of the high-pressure accumulator, the wheel brakes are acted upon by hydraulic pressure of the hydraulic pump according to the sensor system which detects actuation or according to the pressure sensor.

  • Patent number: 6478051
Abstract: The present invention discloses a pressure fluid accumulator with a housing having its interior subdivided into two chambers by a media-separating element, the first chamber being filled with a gas and the second chamber being filled with a liquid, and wherein in a hydraulic port a bottom valve is provided whose closure member is operable by the media-separating element and which permits filling the second chamber with liquid and prevents complete evacuation of the second chamber. In order to prevent a damage of the bottom valve and an inadvertent escape of fluid and, thus, ensure a considerable increase in the reliability in operation, according to the present invention, the closure member can be moved by the media-separating element to adopt a position in which it fulfils the function of a hydraulic piston.

  • Patent number: 6474753
Abstract: For externally actuating a brake system, both the surroundings of the brake pedal and, if necessary, additional parameters (d,d ,Vref) are monitored a sensor unit (6,10,11). Then the brake pressure (pnom) will be set automatically in an expedient manner in dependence of the individual parameters that were evaluated. Advantageous further embodiments include proposals for precharging the brake or braking slightly or automatically applying a higher brake pressure in dependence of the measuring results, in so far as this is reasonable with respect to road conditions and the driver's wishes as they were assumed by the system.

  • Patent number: 6470731
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for determining a characteristic quantity for an instantaneously maximum coefficient of friction between the tires of a vehicle and a roadway, which is calculated from the ratio between the frictional force and the wheel contact force, especially for defining a following time of the vehicle in relation to another vehicle which is directly in front thereof in the direction of travel, for collision avoidance purposes. In this arrangement, the characteristic quantity of the coefficient of friction is assigned to one of at least two classes and is then presented to a driver of the vehicle and/or sent to the collision avoidance system of the vehicle, by logically linking data output values of sensor means provided in the vehicle, on the one hand.

  • Patent number: 6424907
Abstract: A method and device is disclosed for determining and detecting the rollover hazard of a vehicle through a dynamic detection of variations in the center of gravity of the vehicle. During cornering of the vehicle, first condition variables, which correspond to the respective wheel load, are detected on at least two wheels. The detected first condition variables are compared to reference values representative of the respective cornering maneuver. A corresponding change in the center of gravity is calculated from the differences between the detected first condition variables and the reference values.
