  • Publication number: 20140008148
Abstract: A traveller for a fall arrest system comprises a body having a passage therethrough, a slot narrower than the passage linking the passage to the exterior of the body, and a load member suitable to attach the traveller to fall safety equipment. The slot is formed between an inner gate extending outwardly relative to the passage and an outer gate extending inwardly relative to the passage, the inner gate and outer gate having respective opposed convex surfaces defining the slot between them. The traveller is arranged such that when the traveller is mounted on a support the inner gate and outer gate lie on a common radius of respective concentric circles about the support.

  • Patent number: 8522919
Abstract: A fall arrest device having a safety support whilst allowing movement of the device on an elongate support. The fall arrest device including, a sliding element, first and second cam elements, first and second links, and an attachment. The first and second links connected together to mutually rotate about a third axis separated from a first and second axes, and the attachment moving relative to the links, so that the first and second locking cams can be moved between their first and second positions by loads applied to the device through the attachment.

  • Patent number: 6945357
Abstract: A removable load transfer device 100 for use in height safety apparatus comprises: spaced-apart rotary members 101, 102 supported for rotation with respect to each other about a common axis of rotation along which the axle extends continuously between the rotary members; a slipper 110 defining a space 150 for receiving elongate element 250 on which the device 100 travels; an attachment 300 for attaching a load to the device 100, and an access for element 250 includes at least one notch 117, 118 in the hub of each rotary member 101, 102 and attachment 300 includes a moveable link assembly operable between blocking and release positions with respect to notches 117, 118 by said element 250, without movement of the rotary members away from each other along the common axis, such that the attachment prevents unintended release of the load from the device.

  • Patent number: 6330861
Abstract: A height safety system includes an elongate semi-rigid element (310) suspended from its end under tension between a pair of fixed anchors and is supported by intermediate guides (331). Shuttle means (360) are installed on the element (310) and are adapted for movement therealong between the fixed anchors. The shuttle means (360) are provided with attachment devices (365) for receiving a suspended load or a personnel safety line. The intermediate guides (331) are designed to grip the element (310) with a predetermined clamping force that allows limited slippage of the element (310) therethrough in response to an applied tensile load exceeding the clamping force. Slippage no longer occurs when the tensile load equals the predetermined clamping force. In this way, the tensile load is partially transferred to an adjacent span of the element (310).

  • Patent number: 6125766
Abstract: A load transfer device comprising a pair of spaced-apart rotary members, each having at least one recess formed in its periphery and sharing a common axis of rotation. A slipper member is located between the spaced-apart rotary members and defines therewith a space adapted to receive an elongate support element along which the device travels in use. A positive locking mechanism is also provided for attaching a load to the device in order to prevent accidental release of the load from the device. The spaced-apart rotary members are rotatably mounted in relation to the slipper member and their recesses are adapted to traverse intermediate brackets provided for the elongate support element without user intervention. The limbs of the intermediate brackets are successively received, guided and passed by the recesses automatically.

  • Patent number: 5934408
Abstract: A fall arrest device for use on an elongate safety line or track. The device contains a body part having retaining means to retain the safety line or track; locking cam means and biasing means for urging the locking cam means into locking engagement with the safety line or track in response to a sudden change in load experienced by the device; attaching means for attaching personnel safety means to the device; and cover means to receive loading applied to the device in a direction generally towards the safety line or track. The cover means are pivotally or rockably connected to the body part and are in a force transmitting relationship with the locking cam means thereby urging the locking cam means into locking engagement with the safety line or track.
