  • Patent number: 5810266
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for producing finely divided dispersions of solids having an average particle size of 0.01 to 20 .mu.m by the comminution of coarse particulate dispersions in a hole- or slit-type nozzle 4 having a specific bore length to diameter ratio at a pressure difference greater than 5 bar between the nozzle inlet and the nozzle outlet. The invention also relates to an apparatus for producing the finely divided dispersion.

  • Patent number: 5783066
Abstract: A pellet formed from a mix of two polymer materials which are non-homogenous is extruded through a die to form a highly roughened surface creating an enhanced melt fracture appearance. The extrusion is chopped into pellet form to provide a large surface area pellet to be used as a harbour for biomass in water treatment processes. Large quantities of such pellets in a filter provide a very effective filtration effect, largely because the highly roughened surface provides an enormous number of cavities within which the biomass can be retained.

  • Patent number: 5650102
Abstract: In the process for the preparation of microcapsule dispersions by an interface polyaddition process in which an oil-in-water emulsion is prepared from an oily phase, which comprises the substance to be encapsulated and a lipophilic substance capable of polyaddition, and on aqueous phase, and the reaction partner required for the polyaddition is then added to the aqueous phase, capsules with smaller particle sizes are obtained, with a saving in emulsifying energy, if an oil-soluble emulsifier is added to the oily phase before the emulsification.

  • Patent number: 5102935
Abstract: The invention relates to new, free-flowing polyamide molding compounds and blends, characterized in that they are prepared by mixing of polyamides known per se in the melt with low molecular weight, liquid-crystalline esters and/or ester amides corresponding to formula (I) and/or liquid-crystalline, oligomeric esters and/or ester amides corresponding to formula (II) and, optionally, other additives, at least one polymeric blending component being used as a further additive in the case of polyamide blends, and to the use of these liquid-crystalline (LC) additives I and/or II as flow promoters in polyamide molding compounds and blends and to a process for the production of the new polyamide molding compounds and blends. The invention also relates to the new oligomeric esters and/or ester amides corresponding to formula (II).
