  • Patent number: 5125335
Abstract: In fuse elements of layered structure with long delay times, misfires, occur, above all, if aggravating secondary conditions prevail (such as, for example, high projectile rotation and/or temperature stresses and shock stresses). The safe progression of the reaction through the element is enhanced by providing that, as seen in the propagation direction of the reaction, the central zone of a charge igniting a delay charge projects into a central region of the delay charge. An additional improvement can be achieved by interposing between the ignition charge and the delay section, one or several relay charges and by making the choice of the charge components so that the discontinuities of the characteristic values (especially of the reaction rate) become more even and thus smaller, or by utilizing an ignition charge having a particularly low reaction rate.

  • Patent number: 4963204
Abstract: Pyrotechnic delay compositions with delays in the seconds range are based on a pyrotechnic delay mixture of powdered metallic tungsten, barium chromate an potassium perchlorate, and additionally contain either barium hexafluorosilicate or calcium fluoride pyrogenic silica. The additives cause these compositions to burn completely even under severe environmental conditions, such as very fast rotation, vibration, impact, shock, and, at the same time, extremely low below-freezing temperatures. The effect of the barium hexafluorosilicate is still further improved if the delay compositions additionally contain pyrogenic silica.

  • Patent number: 4730558
Abstract: An electronic delayed-action explosive detonator comprising a tubular case, a capacitor chargeable by pulses from a blasting machine, an integrated circuit for processing pulses from the blasting machine to set a delay time, the integrated circuit controlling the elapse of the delay time after the delay time has been set, a primer to which current is supplied upon elapse of the delay time for enabling detonation, and detonator wires extending from the tubular case for enabling connection of the blasting machine to at least one of the capacitor and integrated circuit. A supporting plate arrangement for carrying the integrated circuit is disposed in series with the capacitor within the tubular case. The supporting plate has a first contact area with connecting pads for enabling attachment of leads of the capacitor, and a second contact area with connecting pads for enabling attachment of the detonator wires which are within the tubular case and extend outwardly therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4646640
Abstract: For the chronologically staggered initiation of a plurality of electronic explosive delay detonators connected together with a blasting detonating machine, a signal current produced in each explosive detonator by signals sent by the blasting detonating machine, for example an impulse sequence, is integrated up in order to establish the delay time and, for carrying out of the delay, is integrated anew or integrated down to equality of the integrals or of the starting values. According to the invention, the integrating up begins in all explosive detonators simultaneously, with the end of the integrating up being controlled by signals from the blasting detonating machine.
