  • Patent number: 5492944
Abstract: A powdery bonding agent for paints which is soluble in pure aliphatic compounds, and which is in the form of powdery polymerizate particles, which consists of, at least on the particle surface, of a copolymerizate formed of: (i) 60 to 95 percent by weight of units of at least one hardening monomer selected from the group consisting of (A) isobutylmethacrylate and (B) cycloalkylmethacrylate; and (ii) 5 to 40 percent by weight of units of at least one aliphatic-substance-solubilizing monomer selected from the group consisting of (C) alkylmethacrylates having 6 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl residue, where the units of isobutylmethacrylate account for no more than 60 percent by weight and the units of cycloalkylmethacrylates account for no less than 10 percent by weight, based on, in each case, the weight of the copolymerizate.

  • Patent number: 5185387
Abstract: An aqueous synthetic resin dispersion having a minimum film forming temperature below 50.degree. C., containing an emulsion polymer having a core/shell structure consisting ofA) 65-90 percent by weight of a weakly crosslinked core polymer having a glass transition temperature, T.sub.g, below 0.degree. C. and an extensibility of at least 150 percent, andB) 10-35 percent by weight of an essentially non-crosslinked shell polymer having a T.sub.g below 60.degree. C. the T.sub.g of the core polymer being at least 10 Centigrade degrees below that of the shell polymer.

  • Patent number: 4582730
Abstract: A method for priming an absorbent mineral or wood substrate to provide a wet-adhering coating, which comprises applying to said substrate a solution, in an organic solvent which has a normal boiling point between 50.degree. C. and 180.degree. C., of a copolymer of monomers of acrylate and methacrylate esters, of styrene and of vinyl esters, and of dialkylaminoalkyl esters of acrylic acid and of methacrylic acid and their corresponding amides, the maximum glass transition temperature of the copolymer being in the range from 20.degree. C. to 80.degree. C. and the reduced viscosity of the copolymer being in the range from 20 to 60 ml/g.
