  • Patent number: 8402729
Abstract: A vehicle for harvesting espalier fruit, such as berries or grapes, and for further processing to a must on the vehicle. The vehicle comprises a frame configured to reach over a row of plants to be harvested in an area of a u-shaped recess of the vehicle. Also included are wheels on both sides of the u-shaped recess and arranged on the frame. Further included is a picking device to separate the fruit from a remainder of the plants. A solid-bowl screw-type centrifuge is arranged directly on the vehicle, which solid-bowl screw-type centrifuge separates and clarifies a fruit mash into at least a solids phase and a liquid phase.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 15, 2005
Date of Patent: March 26, 2013
Assignees: Westfalia Separator AG, Ero-Geratebau GmbH, Hochschule Wadenswil
Inventors: Jochen Hamatschek, Frank Schauz, Peter Schöttler, Hans-Joachim Beyer, Dominik Zielke, Michael Erbach, Tilo Hühn

  • Patent number: 4828865
Abstract: A method for producing citrus juices with low final percentages of pulp. A centrifuge is used, with the space in the drum that receives the heavier phase, the phase with a high concentration of pulp, discontinusously emptied of at least some of the pulp through slide-activated extraction openings in the jacket of the drum. The light phase, the clarified juice, is continuously extracted. To ensure that the juice will be clarified considerably more effectively in the centrifuge at low energy and equipment costs, with the throughput increased incrementally, juice with a high concentration of pulp is continuously extracted from the centrifuge through channels or through an annular space that is demarcated on the inside by a large separating disk and that has an inflow opening at the largest inside diameter of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4560565
Abstract: A method of stabilizing must and still and sparkling wines with respect to crystalline precipitation. Seed crystals of potassium hydrogentartrate are added to the products during processing to accelerate crystal growth. Since any calcium ions in the wine affect the crystallization of potassium hydrogentartrate, dipotassium DL-tartrate is also added to precipitate the calcium ions. The wine is cooled in a cooler and the colloids filtered out in a filter before the seed crystals are added and is finally stored at a low temperature in a tank. The precipitated crystals are removed in a hydrocyclone and 80% of them added along with dipotassium DL-tartrate to fresh wine that is to be stabilized. The added crystals are finely milled in colloid mills if necessary. The wine from the hydrocyclone is highly clarified in a centrifugal separator to eliminate any crystals not removed in the hydrocyclone.
