Patent number: 8640863Abstract: A dust and particulate containment system for an open sided gallery conveyor, having a movable curtain for covering the open side of the conveyor and a trough positioned within and extending along a length of the conveyor. A rail is arranged within the conveyor and a carriage, having an opening for transferring bulk materials therethrough via a sealed connection to a cross conveyor, is positioned to move along this rail. Sealing strips in the trough retain the curtain tautly in place and seal the open side of the conveyor. As each carriage moves along the rail, a spreader frame attached to the carriage biasingly opens the sealing strips, and temporarily frees the curtain from being retained, so that the freed curtain is lifted over the carriage to avoid covering the opening in the carriage, so that transfer of bulk materials in the conveyor can occur through the opening.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2011Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: EMS—Tech Inc.Inventors: Reg Leworthy, Rick Doxtator, Scott Sheridan, Peter Sorensen, George Leverton

Publication number: 20100003675Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining mastitis resistance in bovine subjects, wherein mastitis resistance comprise resistance to both sub-clinical and clinical mastitis. In particular, the method of the invention involves identification of genetic markers and/or Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) for the determination of mastitis resistance in a bovine subject. The determination of mastitis resistance involves resolution of the specific microsatellite status. Furthermore, the invention relates to a diagnostic kit for detection of genetic marker(s) associated with mastitis resistance. The method and kit of the present invention can be applied for selection of bovine subjects for breeding purposes. Thus, the invention provides a method of genetically selecting bovine subjects with mastitis resistance, thereby yielding cows less prone to mastitis.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2007Publication date: January 7, 2010Applicants: MTT Agrifood Research Finland, Aarhus Universitet, Estonian University of Life SciencesInventors: Mogens Sando Lund, Bente Flugel Majgren, Goutam Sahana, Ayman Mahmoud Sabry, Peter Sorensen, Soren Svendsen, Bo Thomsen, Ingrid Lena Anderson-Eklund, Helmi Johanna Vilkki, Christian Bendixen, Terhi Katariina Iso-Touru, Sirja Maria Viitala, Nina Frederika Schulman, Nicola Hastings, John Lewis William Williams, John Arthur Woolliams, Ana Isabel Fernandez Avila, Haldja Viinalass, Sirje Varv

Publication number: 20090181386Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining calving characteristics in bovine subjects, wherein calving characteristics comprise stillbirth, calving difficulty and calf size at birth, which are all economically important factors. In particular, the method of the invention involves identification of genetic markers and/or Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) for the determination of calving characteristics in a bovine subject. The determination of calving characteristics involves resolution of the specific microsatellite status. Furthermore, the invention relates to a diagnostic kit for detection of genetic marker(s) associated with calving characteristics.
