Abstract: A system and method for determining entitlement to content residing on a server. A subscriber computing device operated by a subscriber generates a request for access to a requested content residing on a content access provider server. The subscriber has an account with a multi-channel video program distributor (MVPD) and the account comprises subscription information indicative of the services provided by the MVPD to the subscriber. The content request is received by the content access provider and forwarded to an entitlements server. The entitlement determines whether the subscriber is entitled to receive the requested content based on the subscription information and sends an access granted message to the content access provider server when the subscriber is entitled to receive the requested content.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing control over targeted secondary content based on a zone associated with a user. In one exemplary embodiment, a user request for primary content from a non-legacy device results in the delivery of the same secondary content which would have been provided had the request been generated at a legacy device (so-called “zone preservation”). To accomplish this, the devices are associated with a user's zone at a zone preservation server in communication with the server providing content to the devices. The zone preservation server associates each user with an advertisement zone identifier, and utilizes the identifier to direct the delivery of primary and secondary content. In another embodiment, a prescribed rule set for one or more zones is employed, such as where certain types of advertisements or secondary content are inserted given a particular device or user context.

Abstract: Methods of generating video streams including advertisement information sufficient to support advertisement countdown times and other functions such as advertisement auto pause functions are described. In accordance with various embodiments, advertisement duration is determined from one or more messages included in a video stream, e.g., prior to the corresponding advertising segment. A countdown timer is generated from the advertisement information and displayed along with the content of the advertisement segment. Restrictions for different subscribers may be indicated in the advertisement information messages, e.g., with some end users being permitted to fast forward or skip advertisements with other users being required to allow the full normal playback of one or more advertisement segments. The auto pause function, when activated, pauses an ad segment or set of ad segments at a predetermined time before output of the main program resumes thereby making sure none of the main program is missed.

Abstract: A process for preparation of a paraffin isomerization catalyst comprising a mixture of a Group IVB metal oxide, a Group VIB metal oxide, a Group IIIA metal oxide and a Group VIII metal. The process includes the steps of: a) contacting a hydroxide of the Group IVB metal with an aqueous solution of an oxyanion of the Group VIB metal to provide a mixture, (b) drying the mixture to provide a dry powder, (c) kneading the powder with a Group IIIA hydroxide gel and a polymeric cellulose ether compound to form a paste, (d) shaping the paste to form a shaped material, (e) calcining the shaped material to form a calcined material, (f) impregnating the calcined material with an aqueous solution of a Group VIII metal salt to provide the catalyst, and (g) calcining the catalyst.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for customized email and data management is disclosed. According to one embodiment, a collaborative page is created to contain an email module configured to access one or more email accounts. Emails from the one or more email accounts are selected using an email selection criterion. The selected emails are processed to parse data based on a parsing rule. The emails and the parsed data are displayed on the collaborative page. The collaborative page is updated with new emails and the updated content.

Abstract: In an embodiment of the present invention, programming content and program-related content (PRC) cues are delivered to a subscriber via an interactive multi-service distribution network. The PRC cues comprise interactive visual elements that may be used to create a PRC object that is selectable by a subscriber. Upon selection of a PRC object, the subscriber receives PRC through a communication service separate from the video programming delivery service, VOD service, PVR service, and NDVR service.
