The electronic device includes a display, one or more processors, memory, and one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors. The one or more programs include instructions for detecting a display change associated with media content item represented on a display, transmitting a request (e.g., to a server) for at least a portion of the media content item, receiving the requested portion of the media content item, storing the received portion of the media content item in a local cache, receiving a user input indicative of the selection of the media content item, and presenting the received portion of the media content item in response to receiving the user input indicative of the selection of the media content item.
