Patent number: 8320312Abstract: The present invention is a method and system adapted to facilitate, between a mobile station (MS) and network, an indication of support for reduced time transmission interval (RTTI). The MS can provide a base station system (BSS) with an indication of its multislot capability within an access burst sent at the start of a contention based access. In another aspect, the MS can indicate support for a new Immediate Assignment message as the conventional Immediate Assignment message can only assign single timeslots. The present invention enables the Radio Access Network (RAN) to assign RTTI and more than one timeslot for GPRS/EDGE temporary block flows (TBFs) during an Access Grant Channel (AGCH) assignment. The method of the present invention can be implemented in a computer program product or distributed software adapted to be loaded into at least one or a plurality of memory locations and executed by at least one or a plurality of respective computer processors.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2007Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericssson (publ)Inventors: Andreas Olsson, Håkan Axelsson, John Diachina, Peter Östrup

Publication number: 20120289232Abstract: A node (20) of a communications network proposes an inactivity timer parameter for a radio access network bearer. The inactivity timer parameter indicates for how much time the bearer may be inactive for a session or a connection while the bearer is still allocated resources of the radio access network. The node proposes the inactivity timer parameter in dependence upon a service characteristic or a subscription characteristic for the session or the connection.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 8, 2012Publication date: November 15, 2012Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Peter ÖSTRUP, Henrik ANDRÉ-JÖNSSON

Publication number: 20120021748Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method in a first communication device with an adaptive neighbouring cell relations function. The first communication device receives (42) a measurement report of a possible neighbouring cell candidate of a second communication device from a user equipment camped/connected within a first cell served by the first communication device and determines (44) to set up an inter node connection to the second communication device serving the possible neighbouring cell candidate indicated in the received measurement report. The firs communication device then initiates (46) to set up the inter node connection to the second communication device by sending a connection request comprising a geographical position of the first communication device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2009Publication date: January 26, 2012Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventor: Peter Östrup

Publication number: 20110177820Abstract: The present invention overcomes the problem of S1 interface failure by redirecting user equipments to another radio basestation, or another RAT. This redirecting may be on a UE-by-UE basis, i.e. when a connection request is received, redirecting that UE, or may involve redirecting all UEs in a cell by broadcasting modified system information. The redirecting may be such that future traffic load, for example as caused by UEs performing tracking area updates, is minimized, by instructing UEs to redirect after a randomized period of time, or by locking the cell after a randomized period of time, for example. In yet further embodiments of the invention, the cell may be locked after a certain number of connection requests have been received. In this way, particularly busy cells can be locked sooner than would otherwise be the case.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2008Publication date: July 21, 2011Inventors: Anders Westroos, Fredrik Hillström, Peter Ostrup, Stefan Johansson, Walter Müller

Publication number: 20100331011Abstract: In order to prevent a mobile terminated (MT) call to a user equipment (UE) from being lost by addressing a Location Area/Tracking Area (LA/TA) mismatch problem that could occur during a circuit switched (CS) Fallback, the method comprises the steps of: receiving a paging message from a mobility management entity, MME, where the paging message identifies suitable location areas, the paging message is sent because a first mobile switching center, MSC1, received a MT call request for the UE; determining that there are no 2G/3G cells belonging to the suitable location areas based on a current location of the UE; identifying a target 2G/3G cell in a location area associated with the current location of the UE but not part of the 2G/3G cells belonging to the suitable location areas; and enabling a signaling connection to be established between the UE and the first MSC1 via a second mobile switching center, MSC2, where the second MSC2 interfaces with a base station controller, BSC2, or a radio network controller, RNType: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2009Publication date: December 30, 2010Inventors: Jari Tapio Vikberg, John Walter Diachina, Magnus Olsson, Peter Östrup

Publication number: 20100303041Abstract: A mobility management entity (MME) for setting up a call includes a first network interface which receives a tracking area update (TAU) request from a user equipment (UE). The MME includes a processing unit which translates the TAU request into a location area update (LAU) request. The MME includes a second network interface in communication with the processing unit which sends the LAU request to a mobile switching center (MSC) selected as a tracking MSC thereby establishing the MME as a network node through which the UE is paged. The second network interface receiving a LAU response from the tracking MSC that includes at least information identifying one or more suitable location area identifiers (LAI(s)) to which handover is allowed and Network Resource Identifier (NRI) information where the information indicates that the tracking MSC controls the suitable LAI(s), and the processing unit translating the LAU response into a TAU response which is sent through the first network interface to the UE.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2008Publication date: December 2, 2010Inventors: John Diachina, Jari Vikberg, Peter Östrup

Patent number: 7633903Abstract: A method and packet data support node in a radio telecommunications network supporting packet data communication between a packet data network and a mobile terminal in radio communication with a first packet control unit. The packet data support node receives a message from the mobile terminal requesting handover to a second packet control unit. A packet flow context detector in the packet data support node detects the number of packet flow contexts currently active in the first packet control unit for supporting the packet data connection. The detector sends a message during handover to the second packet control unit indicating the number of active packet flow contexts. The message is used for activation of a corresponding number of packet flow contexts in the second packet control unit.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2006Date of Patent: December 15, 2009Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Nils Peter Östrup, John Diachina, Gunnar Hedby, Anders Molander, Gunnar Rydnell
