Abstract: Disclosed are compounds of formula I, ##STR1## in which either R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, which may be the same or different, each signifies a hydrogen atom, a chlorine or fluorine atom, an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkoxy radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a cyano group, a group --SO.sub.3 M, an unsubstituted phenyl radical or a phenyl radical substituted by up to 2 substituents selected from chlorine, fluorine, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and the group --SO.sub.3 M, with the proviso that only one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 signifies an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl radicalOr two of R.sub.1 , R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, together, form a methylenedioxy group, the other of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 having one of the above significances,R.sub.4 signifies a hydrogen atom, a chlorine or fluorine atom, an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an alkoxy radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms,R.sub.

Abstract: There are provided benzodioxol-4-yl carbamates of the formula: ##STR1## where R.sup.1 represents H, alkyl or phenyl; R.sup.2 represents alkyl; R.sup.3 represents H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkanoyl or benzoyl; R.sup.4 represents alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl; and R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7, which may be the same or different, each represent H, halogen, or alkyl.The compounds are insecticidal.

Abstract: A lamp burning a vaporizable oil produces both a steady light and a regularly recurring bright flash. The lamp has a non-combustible wick in a cooled metal tubular wick holder, the upper part of the wick holder being surrounded by an open-topped combustion chamber which extends inwardly towards a pilot flame on the wick. Heating of the combustion chamber induces air flow causing an explosive mixture to form in the chamber; this is ignited by the pilot flame to give a bright flash.

Abstract: Disclosed are optical brightening agents, such agents being 2-(2')-benzimidazoyl-furans substituted in the 5-position of the furan ring by a 1-aryl-pyrazolyl-3, -4 or -5 radical, by a pyrazolyl-1 radical or by a 2-aryl-v-triazolyl-4 radical, such compounds being in free base, acid addition or quaternary ammonium salt form.
