  • Patent number: 4819288
Abstract: A foamed elastomeric seat cushion (10), especially for a wheelchair, has an overall upper part (20) supported by a lower part (30), the lower part rear portion (40) being formed by two like transversely spaced blocks (40a,40b), each block being of sandwich construction with front-to-rear upright layers, and higher density in an intermediate layer than the associated outer layers. These blocks extend forwardly to about the cushion middle, they extend similarly upwardly, they have about equal width with their mutual spacing, and they have layers of about equal thickness. The lower part front portion (50) can be formed with similar blocks (50a,50b), but with transversely directed layers and a smaller block spacing. The upper part can also be of multiple layers (21,22,23) with an increase in density for downwardly successive layers up to no more than the minimum density in the lower part.

  • Patent number: 4634437
Abstract: A device for preventing or hindering obturation of an inlet valve of a urine collector bag, the device being a trifurcate member of unitary construction being generally planar and incorporated in the bag. The central limb of the device is curved in cross-section and seats the valve so that even when the bag or valve is crushed, twisted or shortened, the valve remains open, being supported and strengthened by the device. The limbs of the device are situated at the sides of the bag in use.

  • Patent number: 4580301
Abstract: A mattress for supporting the human body, which is especially useful in hospitals or for home nursing of sick persons, comprises a body of open-cell foamed synthetic plastics material, with air passages extending up through a central region of the body. These air passages are open through the base of the central region of the mattress. The body of the mattress may comprise a base layer of foamed synthetic plastics material extending from head to foot of the mattress, and supporting elements in head and foot regions of the mattress located on this base layer. Each of these supporting elements may comprise foamed synthetic plastics material which is denser and less readily compressed than foam material in a central region of the mattress.

  • Patent number: 4384381
Abstract: A novel sheet assembly for use where frequent bed changing is necessary comprises three sheet members positioned adjacent one another transversely across a mattress. Each sheet member has a main portion for the patient to lie on, and an underlie portion which for two of the members underlies the next adjacent sheet member. The underlie portion of the third sheet member is tucked around the head of the bed. Each sheet member has inclined, laterally extending side flaps tucked under the mattress. Each main portion has a foam core and is thicker than the underlie portion. The assembly allows each bed changing by replacing say one soiled sheet member only. The side flaps retain the sheet members in position during movement of an occupant of the bed.
