  • Publication number: 20070272131
Abstract: A two-step gasification process and apparatus for the conversion of solid or liquid organic waste into clean fuel, suitable for use in a gas engine or a gas burner, is described. The waste is fed initially into a primary gasifier, which is a graphite arc furnace. Within the primary gasifier, the organic components of the waste are mixed with a predetermined amount of air, oxygen or steam, and converted into volatiles and soot. The volatiles consist mainly of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and may include a variety of other hydrocarbons and some fly ash. The gas exiting the primary gasifier first passes through a hot cyclone, where some of the soot and most of the fly ash is collected and returned to the primary gasifier.

  • Publication number: 20050166811
Abstract: Solid combustible waste materials are converted into highly efficient fuel by subjecting such materials to size reduction in suitable size-reducing equipment. The last piece of the equipment is a mill which pulverizes the waste materials into fine particles having a high surface to mass ratio and forming a highly efficient fuel when these particles are directly injected into a combustion reactor operating at high temperature.

  • Patent number: 5147998
Abstract: A plasma torch comprises a torch housing, rear and front tubular electrodes coaxially mounted within such housing with a gap therebetween, both electrodes being fabricated from copper having tubular inserts of refractory material, a vortex generator for introducing a tangential flow of gas in opposite direction into the tubular electrodes through the gap between the two electrodes, and a cooling system for cooling the tubular electrodes.
