  • Patent number: 9511271
Abstract: A two-stage resistance trainer is provided having a first magnet that is in proximity to a rotating wheel, and a moveable second magnet that is linked to the first magnet. The first magnet is moved when the rotating wheel rotates and the second magnet is moved closer to the rotating wheel to add a second order effect to the resistance. The trainer is capable of adjusting the first magnet position in relation to the rotating wheel to provide a different relationship of speed to resistance.

  • Publication number: 20160346591
Abstract: A self-compensating tire compression device is provided for use with a trainer. The device attaches to a frame, such as a bicycle, that holds the axis of a driving wheel fixed. The device has a pivoting portion that presses a driven portion of a resistance device against the driving wheel. The pivoting point of the pivoting portion is located on the trainer to provide a static contact pressure between the driving wheel and the driven wheel, and when the driving wheel begins to rotate and the resistance device begins to resist the rotation, the contact pressure between the driving wheel and the driven wheel increases to prevent slippage between the two wheels.

  • Publication number: 20150217158
Abstract: A collapsible folding training device is provided having a rear frame portion that contains a resistance device. The resistance device uses eddy currents and has a pivoting magnet internally that creates progressively increasing resistance as speed increases. An arm is attached to the rear frame portion that can pivot from a stored position to an in-use position. At the opposite end of the arm, a front frame is attached where it can affix a portion of a driving mechanism, such as a bicycle. The front frame supports and stabilizes the driving mechanism. The arm sets the distance between the front frame and the resistance device.

  • Patent number: 6857992
Abstract: A roller-type bicycle trainer includes a frame and a series of rollers that are configured to support the wheels of the bicycle. At least one of the rollers is formed of electrically conductive material, e.g. aluminum, and a magnetic resistance arrangement includes one or more magnets that are spaced from the electrically conductive material in order to create an eddy current resistive force that resists rotation of the roller, upon rotation of the roller by operation of the bicycle. The magnetic resistance arrangement includes an adjustment feature for adjusting the position of the one or more magnets relative to the roller, to vary the strength of the eddy current resistive force and thereby the degree of resistance to rotation of the bicycle wheel.

  • Patent number: 5794828
Abstract: A racking system for transporting a bicycle comprising a framework upon which the bicycle is mounted. A pair of telescoping arms, adjustable in length, are pivotally connected to the framework and removably secured to the seat post of the bicycle. The arms extend downwardly from the bicycle to the framework on opposite sides of the bicycle for laterally supporting the bicycle. The racking system further includes a tension mechanism having a tightening strap extending through the front wheel of the bicycle and through a cam buckle which is attached to an anchor strap to the framework for tightening the bicycle to the framework. The cam buckle frictionally engages the tightening strap to tighten the strap at the desired tension. The tension mechanism and the arms are configured and positioned to distribute the load on the bicycle so that the bicycle, frame, arms and tension mechanism are in a state of static equilibrium.

  • Patent number: 4539891
Abstract: A servo booster mechanism (18) having a piston (48) responsive to movement of a plunger (84) by an input signal for controlling the rate of fluid flow past a seat (82) into a passage (80) for distribution to the surrounding environment. A first restrictor (75) creates a first pressure drop in a supply fluid pressure P.sub.s to present an operational chamber (46) with fluid at a pressure P.sub.x. A second restrictor (openings 74-76) creates a second pressure drop in fluid pressure P.sub.x supplied from the operational chamber (46) to present control chamber (88) with fluid at a pressure P.sub.h. The difference in pressures combine to act on the piston (48) and plunger (84) to provide a constant force at stem (26), which provides a feedback to the input member (12), and provide a linkage (22) with a force to hold a position sensor (24) in a stationary position.
