    Abstract: The present disclosure describes apparatuses and methods for adaptive frame alignment for a receiver. In some aspects, an adaptive frame aligner detects a failure by a decoder to decode a frame of symbols that are stored in a buffer. In response to the failure to decode, the adaptive frame aligner alters a pointer of the buffer to realign the symbols of a subsequent frame. The decoder can then attempt to decode the realigned symbols of the subsequent frame to provide decoded data of the subsequent frame. If the decoding attempt fails, the adaptive frame aligner can alter the pointer again to provide a different realignment of the symbols of another subsequent frame and may repeat this process until the decoder is able to decode the realigned symbols of a frame. By so doing, the adaptive frame aligner may enable the decoder to decoder the frame without retraining a data link.

    Abstract: A Physical Layer (PHY) device, for use in an Ethernet network in a vehicle, includes a link interface and a transceiver. The link interface is configured to connect to a full-duplex Ethernet link. The transceiver is configured to communicate over the full-duplex Ethernet link in a first direction using a High-Data-Rate (HDR) signal having a first data rate, and to communicate over the full-duplex Ethernet link in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, using a Low-Data-Rate (LDR) signal having a second data rate, lower than the first data rate. A frequency spectrum of the LDR signal is contained within a frequency spectrum of the HDR signal.

    Abstract: A PHY device in an Ethernet network in a vehicle includes a transceiver and a processor. The transceiver communicates with a peer PHY over a bidirectional Ethernet link in the vehicle, the transceiver supports communication modes that are separately configurable for transmission and reception, and are selected from (i) a data mode for communication of data, and (ii) a retraining mode for recovering from reception failure, and reception of retraining signals in the retraining mode is less sensitive to interference than reception of data signals in the data mode. The processor sets the transceiver for data mode transmission to, and data mode reception from the peer PHY, and in response to detecting that during data mode reception a reception quality has degraded to below a specified threshold, set the transceiver to reception in the retraining mode while concurrently transmitting to the peer PHY in the data mode.
