The method may use a light sensor in front of or behind the display to detect light reflected by a user's finger approaching a control option displayed on the display. Light used to display images may be provided at a frequency and/or time that can be identified by a processor connected to the light sensor, or can possess some other unique property (e.g. color) which may be distinguished by the processor.

Abstract: The present rear seat entertainment system provides a second display and interface in the front section of a motor vehicle for control of a media player with a rear mounted first display. The second display shows still video images (or screen shots) from the media player for real time updates on the status of the first display in the rear section of the vehicle according to adjustments made by the second user interface. The entertainment system includes a portable controller with the second display incorporated therein.

Abstract: A position sensing apparatus and method includes a targeting device with a plurality of infrared transmitters or photodiode receivers attached to the targeting device and with corresponding receivers or transmitters mounted near a display monitor. The transmitters emit light signals that are received by the photodiode receivers. Receiver circuitry converts the light signals into signals representing the distance of the transmitters from the receivers. A processor then calculates the three-dimensional position and vector of the targeting device relative to the display monitor.
