  • Patent number: 11003354
Abstract: Method and system are provided for compensating for user hand tremors when using a hand-held electronic device having a user interface display. The method includes monitoring position data of a user's finger in relation to the user interface display over time as the finger approaches an element in the user interface display. A target element is determined by predicting an intended movement of the user's finger and the method dynamically enlarges the determined target element in the user interface display as the user's finger approaches the user interface display.

  • Patent number: 5537023
Abstract: The invention relates to a charging method for storage batteries, in particular for NiCd and NiMH cells. According to the invention, the rise in the charging voltage during each of a number of consecutive charging cycles of a specified duration is measured in the form of a unit corresponding to a certain voltage. The number of these units is transmitted in the form of a counting pulse to two up-down counters during the period of the charging cycle, whereby one counter functions in the down mode and is set at the beginning of a charging cycle to a number corresponding to the number of units established in the preceding charging cycle. In the following charging cycle, the roles of the two counters are reversed, so that the up-counter is now set to the down mode and the other counter to the up mode, whereby the latter is set to a Certain starting counting status.

Abstract: A side impact protection apparatus for use on the inner panel of a vehicle door. The apparatus is a cushion including a hollow flexible skin having an inner wall secured to the inner panel, and flexible walls between the skin and the inner wall, some having an orifice formed therein, to prevent the skin from bulging. Air contained in the cushion is adaptable to flow through inner wall orifice(s), prior to discharge through a side wall orifice, when subjected to impact by the vehicle occupant in the event of a high force side impact against the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5154445
Abstract: A constant force air cushion arrangement for side impact protection, including a plurality of air cells mounted on the inner door panel. A tapered stem is integrally molded on the inner surface of each cell so as to extend toward the inner door panel. An orifice opening, which may have a diaphragm mounted therein, is formed in a wall of each cell adjacent the distal end of the tapered stem. In the event of a side impact of a predetermined force, the stem enters the orifice opening, either directly, or by bursting through the diaphragm in response to the relative velocity between the door and an occupant to progressively restrict the orifice opening and, hence, the volume of air forced out through the orifice by a progressively decreasing velocity between the door and the occupant.

  • Patent number: 5135256
Abstract: A bolster formed of suitable cushioning material attached to the lap belt portion of an automotive three-point seat belt system, wherein the lap belt portion of an automotive three-point seat belt system, wherein the lap belt portion is attached at one end thereof to the sill at the base of the center pillar. The bolster is sized and positioned so as to contact the outside edge of the front seat and the hip portion of the occupant, spaced apart from the vehicle door, providing cushioning between the occupant and the door. When the seat belt is not in use, the bolster assumed a stowed position along side the center pillar intermediate the base and the usual upper shoulder belt dispenser, providing for easy entry and egress by the operator or passenger.

  • Patent number: 4753007
Abstract: The cutting tool includes a tool body having a longitudinal channel to receive different sizes (outer diameters) of shielded cable for cutting and a cutter arm movably mounted on the body to bring a rotatable cutter blade into the channel to cut the shielding. A transverse adjusting member is mounted on the tool body for movement toward or away from the channel to adjustably position a pivotable cable clamp detent in the channel and includes a biasing spring that allows pivotable deflection of the clamp detent toward one end of the channel when the cable is inserted from the other end and return of the clamp detent to a cable clamp position when the cable is moved slightly in the opposite direction to prevent cable movement as a result of cutting forces. Movement of the adjusting member controls the adjusted position of the clamp detent in the channel and means is provided on the adjusting member to releasably lock same for a particular size of shielded cable to be cut.

  • Patent number: 4369152
Abstract: A method of molding a plastic component having first and second portions interconnected by a transition zone with a barrier material encapsulated in the plastic material of both of the portions of the component. The permeable barrier material is placed in a mold cavity to divide the cavity into first and second portions. The first portion of the cavity is filled with plastic material while the second portion of the cavity is filled with plastic material to permeate the barrier material with plastic from both portions whereby the barrier material defines the transition zone and is encapsulated in the plastic component.

  • Patent number: 4328986
Abstract: An elongated energy-absorbing bumper assembly including energy-absorbing elastomeric or foam material extending between a rear mounting surface and a front impact surface with the material defining a hollow recess extending thereinto from the rear mounting surface and positioned between the ends of the assembly. The elastomeric foam material extends to the rear mounting surface at both ends of the hollow recess to define block-like end portions of the elastomeric material. A structural member extends between the block-like end portions of elastomeric material with the ends of the member embedded in the elastomeric foam material. The elastomeric material is the sole support and means of positioning the member so that the member is allowed unguided movement with the elastomeric material in multiple directions upon impact.

  • Patent number: 4219189
Abstract: A spring support is disposed about and fixed to a shock-absorbing unit and engages the lower end of a coil spring. A spring base engages the upper end of the coil spring and engages a mounting plate which is secured to the vehicle body and is also fixedly connected to the upper end of the shock absorber rod. The spring base has a cup-shaped cavity in which is disposed an energy-absorbing block of compressible elastomeric urethane-type material for absorbing energy when the shock absorber system bottoms out by the upper end of the shock-absorbing unit engaging the bottom of the elastomeric block. The energy-absorbing block has a peripheral disc portion extending thereabout and clamped between a dust cover and the spring base for securing the block in position. The energy-absorbing block includes a first plate of non-compressible material disposed between its upper face and the bottom of the cup-shaped cavity in the spring base.
