  • Publication number: 20070013778
Abstract: A movie antipirating scheme associates a detector with a screen and takes video and/or pictures of the audience. The detector can either detect something emitted by the camera or can find an image of a camera in the audience. An output indicative of the location of the probable camera can be used to find the person using the camera in the audience. • Publication number: 20050041910
Abstract: A design is presented for an NxN crossbar switch. A crossbar switch is one of the basic components of Optical Switching Networks. An optical NxN switch has the capability of connecting any light beam from the input of the switch to any output port of the switch without interfering with other light beams. That is each single input is connected to one and only one of the output ports without interfering with any other beam or beams. The design presented is based on the use of precision meso-sale mechanics of the size typically found in miniature disc drives and meso-scale optical components. This meso-scale mechanics is then controlled or driven by precision servo-electronics and software to achieve the correct switching. The precision servomechanisms, meso-scale mechanics, electronics and software control are designed to work together to self-compensate for assembly or manufacturing defects and deleterious environmental, including temperature, effects.

  • Patent number: 6636781
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for distributed control and coordination of autonomous agents in a system. A protocol for distributed control allows autonomous agents to negotiate a group task for the agents, such as locomotion or self-reconfiguration in a robot application, and to synchronize individual agent actions to effect the group task. A protocol for adaptive communication allows autonomous agents, such as physically coupled self-sufficient robot modules, to continuously discover changes in their local topology. In general, in one implementation, the technique includes: discovering a local topology, which includes a type of a communication connection to autonomous agents in the reconfigurable network topology, and determining an action based upon a received control message and the determined local topology.

  • Patent number: 6075924
Abstract: The intelligent motion surface disclosed herein includes multiple cells, each cell having independently controllable force producing devices for moving the object in multiple directions parallel to the intelligent motion surface. The intelligent motion surface has within each cell a set of driving devices engaging with the force producing devices for independent operation. Each driving device propels the motion surface in a separate direction. A motion controller independently operates each of the force producing devices to move the object. The motion controller delineates at least one force area on the intelligent motion surface based on object shape, object size, and desired position of the object on the intelligent motion surface, and provides translation of the desired force areas to produce a desired force vector on the intelligent motion surface.

  • Patent number: 4850839
Abstract: A disclosure relates to an apparatus for extruding and forming blanks from a rubber or polymeric material comprising a pair of hydraulic ram operated extruders having outlets connected to a common delivery conduit. A screw extruder is also connected to the conduit and a control valve controls flow between the respective extruders and conduit such that in one position of the valve one of the ram operated extruders is connected to the conduit outlet delivery of extrudate and the other extruder is connected to the screw extruder to receive a fresh charge of extrudate. A closed hydraulic circuit links the hydraulic rams of the two ram extruders whereby filling of one of the extruders causes that ram to retract and pump the hydraulic fluid therefrom to the other extruder to cause that ram to extend and thereby discharge the extrudate therein and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4392488
Abstract: Device for the support of joints for orthopedic and surgical purposes, which permits use on the periphery or surface of the joint, in the principal plane of movement. The adaptation of the splint to, and its accompaniment of, the change in the configuration of the joint surface upon movements is assured by concatenation linkage of the joint splint, wherein the links, which are constructed as obtuse-angled bell cranks, are united to one another by articulations to form a chain such that, in the case of a radial movement of the splint links, they simultaneously produce a lengthening of the splint according to the principle of the Nuremberg scissors.

  • Patent number: 4338898
Abstract: In an air compressing, internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection, a rotation-symmetrical combustion chamber is positioned in a piston. Combustion air circulates around the longitudinal axis of the combustion chamber at the moment of fuel injection. An injection nozzle is provided from which the fuel is injected in at least two fuel jets into the combustion chamber. The engagement points of the fuel jets on the circumferential wall of the combustion chamber are evenly distributed over said wall. In addition, the engagement points are in different planes disposed normal to the longitudinal axis of the combustion chamber while being spaced from each end thereof. In one embodiment, the injection nozzle is coaxially disposed and emits three fuel jets, the engagement points of which are located in different planes evenly spaced from one another. In another embodiment the injection nozzle is offset with respect to the axis of the combustion chamber with the fuel jets being of substantially equal length.

  • Patent number: 4243002
Abstract: A fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine includes an air suction pipe, a throttle valve located in the pipe, and a member, upstream of the throttle valve, which is actuatable by air flowing through the suction pipe so as to move a piston valve to dose a quantity of fuel to a fuel injection nozzle. The system includes a duct which bypasses the throttle valve, the duct having a valve which closes the duct when the throttle valve is closed and when the engine is above the idling speed. Dosing of fuel is thereby stopped during coasting of a vehicle, leading to decreased fuel consumption.
