  • Patent number: 9797960
Abstract: A battery charge management method and device operable to perform that method. The battery charge management method comprises the steps of determining charge delivered to or from a battery based on Coulomb counting and updating an estimated battery state of charge based on the amount of delivered charge and measuring the battery current. Then comparing the updated estimated battery state of charge with a predetermined state of charge value of less than 100%, such that each predetermined state of charge value being associated with an expected battery current for that predetermined state of charge value. The method also includes modifying the updated estimated battery state of charge when the updated estimated state of charge is greater than the predetermined state of charge value and the measured battery current is greater than the expected battery current associated with the predetermined state of charge.

  • Patent number: 9660460
Abstract: A hybrid battery controller controls charging of a hybrid battery comprising at least two types of rechargeable cell and includes battery characteristic logic operable to determine at least two optimized charge profiles corresponding to the at least two types of rechargeable cell; power source characteristic logic that assesses operational characteristics of a charging power source; and adaptation circuitry that adapts the operational characteristics of said charging power source to perform optimized charging of the at least two types of rechargeable cell according to said at least two determined optimized charge profiles.

  • Publication number: 20150097518
Abstract: A hybrid battery controller operable to control charging of a hybrid battery comprising at least two types of rechargeable cell, a method of controlling charging of a hybrid battery and a computer program product operable to perform that method. The hybrid battery controller comprises battery characteristic logic operable to determine an optimised charge profile for the at least two types of rechargeable cell; power source characteristic logic operable to assess operational characteristics of a charging power source; and adaptation circuitry operable to adapt the operational characteristics of said charging power source to enable optimised charging of the at least two types of rechargeable cell.

  • Patent number: 8970160
Abstract: A supervisory system controller for controlling and monitoring the generation of electrical energy from renewable sources and management methods for the storage of energy so generated and interconnecting the energy-generating elements, storage and load. The supervisory system controller operates to maximum the power transfer from a wind turbine to a battery by automatically varying the threshold levels at which turbine dump loads are switched based on system inputs and measurements. The method conserves generator fuel by delaying a scheduled generator maintenance running period such that it occurs when renewable energy availability is predicted to be low and battery is in a reduced state of charge. Further modifications and management methods are also provided.
