  • Patent number: 6967006
Abstract: A special bearing mat (4) is used for mounting and insulating ceramic monoliths (1, 2) in a preferably oval housing (3) of an automobile exhaust system (20), especially for non-round housing cross sections. The bearing mat (4) and/or said housing is/are specially structured and/or chemically treated, especially impregnated at the points which are at risk of eroding (A) in order to increase resistance to erosion. The bearing mat (4) is adapted to suit the functioning of the exhaust system (20) during operation and is especially configured with several layers.

  • Patent number: 6660359
Abstract: A fiber mat is configured such that the fibers 2 of an intermediate layer arranged between two adjacent layers touch the fibers of one of the layers at positions situated at a distance from the contact points with the fibers of the other layer. The positioning and the material of the fibers is designed to have a high elasticity with regard to pressing.

  • Patent number: 5683660
Abstract: A method for uniting an exhaust treatment body (2) surrounded by a bedding mat (6) with a metal case (8) forming a housing for the exhaust treatment body, characterized in that one or two preformed metal blanks are pressed by means of a form tool (10) against the exhaust treatment body (2) surrounded by the bedding mat (6) and thereby brought into the final case form; and the thus formed metal blank or blanks are welded to the case (8) along one or two longitudinal seams (28). An afflux funnel (44) and a discharge funnel are preferably welded on by means of a special triple seam (56).

  • Patent number: 5180408
Abstract: Device for the catalytic detoxification of or soot removal from exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, comprising: a housing (4) which has two partial shells (4a, 4b) welded together along longitudinal welded edge pairs (26) and two open end zones (8) connected to an exhaust gas line, as well as a flow passage for the exhaust gas between the end zones. Two exhaust gas treatment bodies (6) are provided through which gas is able to flow. The exhaust gas treatment bodies are arranged one behind the other in the flow direction and are arranged at spaced locations from one another in the housing. A protective ring (14) made of sheet metal is provided which delimits the space between the two exhaust gas treatment bodies (6) on the outside. The protective ring (14) has at least one sheet metal flap (32), which extends between a welded edge pair (26) of the housing partial shells (4a, 4b) and is welded to the housing (4) at the welded edge pair.

  • Patent number: 5094073
Abstract: Device for the catalytic cleaning of or soot removal from exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, comprising a housing that has two open end zones connected to an exhaust gas line and a flow passage for the exhaust gases between the end zones. Two flow-carrying exhaust gas treating bodies are held in housing one behind another in the direction of flow and at spaced locations from one another. A protective ring, is provided surrounding the space between the two exhaust gas treating bodies on the outside. The protective ring is held in the housing in a form-fit manner in the axial direction by a holding member surrounding it on the outside. An axial clearance is provided between the protective ring and at least of the two exhaust gas treating bodies in the installed state.
