Abstract: A method, system, and mobile station are presented for informing a packet control unit (PCU) whether the dual transfer mode (DTM) capable mobile station has an ongoing circuit switched connection and is in dedicated mode. The packet control unit will typically be located at a base station. Upon entering the dedicated mode, the mobile station alerts the PCU of entry into the dedicated mode, using a mobility management (MM) procedure. This mobility management procedure is utilized for alerting the PCU about the dedicated mode, regardless of physical movement of the mobile station such as movement from one cell to another.

Abstract: In a first aspect this invention discloses methods and apparatus for operating a radio link protocol receiver when receiving data blocks from a transmitter. The method includes receiving a data block and making a determination as to whether the size of a receive window is less than or equal to a bitmap size, where the bitmap size is the maximum size, in bits, of the bitmap to be reported in an acknowledgment message. If the determination is positive, then the reported bitmap covers the entire receive window, while if the determination is negative the reported bitmap covers only the beginning of the receive window and covers as many blocks as there are bits in the reported bitmap.

Abstract: A method is presented for establishing a continued communication connection after a terminating communication connection between a transmitting station and a receiving station in a communication system where communication connections take place on dedicated communication resources temporarily associated to them. The termination of the terminating communication connection is indicated through a communication resource associated to the terminating communication connection (304, 404, 405, 504). The need for a continued communication connection is also indicated through a dedicated communication resource (305, 408, 408′, 509).
