Patent number: 7493373Abstract: A system is provided to facilitate distribution of a service between a first application and a second application. The system includes a remote socket object, a service registry, and a service mapper. The service mapper receives notification from the service registry indicating registration of the remote socket object created in response to a request for a service at the first application. The service mapper requests an active subscription list from the service registry and selects a subscription record from the active subscription list. The subscription record is associated with the second application. The service mapper sends the selected subscription record to the second application using a remote device port mapped to a localhost port and receives a service record from the second application including a socket for communicating with the second application.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2004Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Antti Takaluoma, Petri Kangas

Publication number: 20080085742Abstract: A method for recording audio using a mobile communication terminal while a microphone connected to the mobile communication terminal provides audio data for an audio communication channel to a remote party. The method includes detecting a first user input indicating a private recording is to be started; stopping provision of audio data from the microphone to the audio communication channel; receiving an audio signal from the microphone; and recording the audio signal. Various methods of storing keywords are also presented.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2006Publication date: April 10, 2008Inventors: Minna Karukka, Johanna Sakkinen, Petri Kangas, Mika P. Patent number: 7062280Abstract: System and method for identifying various types of room facilities to find out and take into account space information. A tag of a space (S2) is included in the fluctuation of the intensity of the light emitted by a lamp (LF1) provided in the space in question. The receivers included in the system are arranged e.g. in commercial mobile stations (R1). These are provided with a light detector and with a DSP algorithm that analyses the signal given by said light detector. As a result of the analysis, for instance the mobile station is automatically switched off when entering the space in question. There is neither needed a separate transmitter nor separate energy supply arrangements to send the space tag, and the space tag signal can be detected throughout said space. As regards the mobile station, the space-specific operations can be performed automatically, so that the mobile station user does not need to bother, and his possible negligence does not prevent the precautions from being executed.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2002Date of Patent: June 13, 2006Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Petri Kangas, Jani Mäntyjärvi, Sami Sillanpää, Antti Takaluoma, Kari Kangas, Timo Tokkonen

Publication number: 20050009577Abstract: The invention relates to a method of monitoring battery characteristics in a radio terminal equipment arrangement. The method comprises measuring battery characteristics of a battery of one or more secondary units communicating with radio terminal equipment; establishing a low-power radio frequency (LPRF) connection between radio terminal equipment and a secondary unit of the radio terminal equipment arrangement. The method also comprises receiving, in the radio terminal equipment, the measured battery characteristics of the one or more secondary units via the established LPRF connection; and giving an indication, by the radio terminal equipment, relating to the battery characteristics of the one or more secondary units.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2004Publication date: January 13, 2005Inventors: Petri Kangas, Jyrki Hoisko

Patent number: 6714778Abstract: The context sensitive web services method enables a mobile phone or wireless device to use context inference techniques to sense the user's environment and in response, to provide useful information to the user that is appropriate to the user's perceived environment. The method includes the steps of receiving sensor signals characterizing a current environment of the wireless device; processing the sensor signals with a context inference engine; outputting a current context result from the processing by context inference engine; and providing useful information to the user in response to the current context result. A further aspect of the method provides user control of access by application programs to the user's private data, including private data in a server. Still further, this can also include providing user control of access by application programs in a web server, to the user's private data.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2001Date of Patent: March 30, 2004Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Petri Nykänen, Jari Paloniemi, Petri Kangas

Publication number: 20020082007Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system in which the content and intelligibility of communication by telephone are improved by means of music. Musical compositions are typically works that create in a listener an association with a certain emotion. In the invention, a suitable piece of music (10a, 10b, . . . , 10n) describing the state of mind of the caller (32) is set to be played in the background of a message to be conveyed by phone. The caller may thus communicate his affective state to the conversation partner without expressing it directly in words. Conversely, the music playing in the background of the message gives the called party (34) immediately an idea of the state of mind of the caller so that he can adopt a suitable attitude in the situation. In the invention, the musical compositions are placed in a directory (30) which may be located in the cellular phone (33, 35) of the caller or called party or in the equipment of the operator (36) switching calls.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2001Publication date: June 27, 2002Inventors: Jyrki Hoisko, Petri Kangas, Urpo Tuomela, Kari J. Publication number: 20020077086Abstract: A method for operating a wireless communication system includes steps of setting a context-sensitive facility in one of a mobile station or in a wireless network; informing a caller of the setting; and overriding the setting by sending a signal from the caller to the context-sensitive facility. The context-sensitive facility can be implemented as an answering service, the signal can be a DTMF signal generated in response to an input from the caller, and in this case the step of overriding forces the call through to a called parties' mobile station when the setting is to not allow calls to be made to the called parties' mobile station.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2000Publication date: June 20, 2002Applicant: NOKIA MOBILE PHONES LTDInventors: Urpo Tuomela, Jani Mantyjarvi, Petri Kangas, Jyrki Hoisko, Kari Kangas, Jarkko Kemppainen
