The method involves establishing a data communication connection between the data capture device and a metadata recording device, determining the time difference between the clocks of the devices, receiving a captured multimedia data item from the multimedia data capture device. having a first timestamp indicating the creation time of the data item, recording metadata having a second timestamp indicating the creation time of the metadata according to the clock of the metadata recording device, and associating the captured multimedia data item with the metadata, utilizing the first and the second timestamps, where at least one timestamp is corrected using the time difference between the clocks of the two devices.
