  • Patent number: 8660503
Abstract: Embodiments provide a transmitter and a method for transmitting data via a combination of a first signal modulated at a first carrier frequency, and a second signal modulated at a second carrier frequency, different to the first carrier frequency. • Patent number: 8502596
Abstract: Embodiments provide methods, devices, circuitry and systems for supporting or implementing functionality to provide a filtering circuit, and for providing a transmitter, receiver or transceiver incorporating the same. One embodiment provides a circuit for filtering signals. The circuit outputs a plurality of signals at a plurality of frequencies, each of the signals being attenuated by an amount determined by the frequency of the signal. The circuit attenuates signals output at a first frequency by an amount which is low relative to the attenuation of signals output at frequencies other than the first frequency. The circuit further attenuates signals output at a second frequency by an amount which is high relative to the attenuation of signals output at frequencies other than the second frequency. Responsive to a change in the control signal, the circuit changes the first and second frequencies while maintaining a fixed ratio between the first and second frequencies.

  • Patent number: 8428545
Abstract: Circuitry for use in a direct conversion transmitting or receiving chains includes mixing circuitry which converts baseband signal to radio frequency or vice versa. A local oscillator to provide a signal having a first component and a second component at a harmonic of the first to the mixing circuitry. The circuitry has a filter circuit which attenuates signals output at a first frequency by an amount which is low relative and which attenuates signals output at a second frequency by an amount which is high, both being relative to the attenuation of signals output at frequencies other than the second frequency. The filter circuit is tunable to vary the frequencies, and configured such that the second frequency is maintained at a predetermined integer multiple of the first frequency.

  • Patent number: 7424064
Abstract: A polar transmitter, operable in linear mode or switched mode, uses a conversion module to convert baseband signals into amplitude data and phase data. The phase data is used to phase modulate a carrier frequency in a radio frequency conversion module. The module comprises a plurality of parallel unit cells, each being a mixer cell type converter having a differential data switch section connected in series to a differential local oscillator-switch pair. The differential local oscillator-switch is connected in series to a current source. Each unit cell is adapted to receive a signal through an input end. In switched mode, the phase-modulated carrier frequency is amplitude modulated by the amplitude data through the supply voltage to a power amplifier. In linear mode, amplitude data is conveyed to the input end of the unit cells for modulating the phase-modulated carrier frequency in the conversion module.

  • Patent number: 7421037
Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) transmitter uses two digital-to-RF conversion modules to convert digital baseband signals into RF signals. In cartesian mode, baseband signals are conveyed to the conversion modules for RF conversion. In polar mode, baseband signals are converted into amplitude and phase data parts. Phase data part is converted into I (inphase) and Q (quadrature) data parts to be converted into RF signals which are modulated in a power amplifier by amplitude data part through the power supply of the power amplifier. Each digital-to-RF module uses parallel unit cells to perform digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion and upconversion functions by an IF signal. Each unit cell, adapted to receive a control voltage indicative of a data signal value, is a mixer cell type converter having a differential data switch section connected in series to a differential LO (local oscillator)-switch pair. LO-switch is further connected in series to a current source.
