In particular, the message system allows users of a social networking system to initiate peer-to-peer loan transactions. For example, one or more implementations involve recommending potential lenders likely to loan money to a user requesting a peer-to-peer loan transaction. One or more embodiments of the message system provide a loan request message to a potential lender. Additionally, one or more embodiments receive an acceptance of the requested loan transaction and initiate the loan transaction by transferring a loan amount from a payment credential of the potential lender to the user.
