  • Patent number: 6227763
Abstract: A waterway and system of waterways are disclosed in which the waterway includes a sheet of material having an upper face which defines a central channel straddled by a pair of skirts, and a pair of spaced walls between the channel and skirts to define the channel. When positioned in the system, the skirts of the waterway are anchored to the soil and covered with soil, and surface water from the soil is collected and drained through the channel. The ribs have walls which extend upwardly from the upper surface of the waterway, are spaced from each other and have juncture lines extending their length to permit the ribs and sheet of material to flex and rebound without damage when exposed to substantial loads.

  • Patent number: 6071053
Abstract: An improved driving element, fastener placement system, method of fastening and combination of fastened workpieces are disclosed which include a generally U-shaped, staple-like fastener having a pair of legs spaced from each other by a crown which transversely extends between the upper ends of the legs to connect the legs to each other adjacent their upper ends and space the upper ends of the legs apart by a given distance. Each of the legs also has an opposite lower end which enter the respective workpieces which are to be fastened together. The fastener is positioned with the lower end of one leg in contact with one of the workpieces and the lower end of the other leg in contact with the other workpiece, and the fastener is then forcibly driven into the respective workpieces by a driving element which acts upon the crown in a manner to attempt or tend to shorten the distance between the upper ends of the legs by bending the crown and countersinking the legs and/or crown into the workpieces.

  • Patent number: 4627584
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for feeding a continuous thin film plastic tape or like, pliable, foldable strip in an oscillatory fashion, which may be random, from a feed surface having a width many times greater than the width of said tape to a receiving surface having a width at least as great as a tape width and many times narrower than the width of the feed surface by spacing and positioning the feed and receiving surfaces with respect to one another to limit the maximum angle between a transverse plane bisecting the receiving surface and extending towards the approaching tape and the centerline of the tape. The maximum value of this angle, in degrees, is about 6.5 times the inverse of the tape width expressed in inches. The invention is illustrated with an apparatus which converts the oscillatory motion of a tape fed from a roll many times wider than the tape over an equally large roller surface to a pulley only slightly wider than the tape and many times smaller than the roller surface.
