  • Publication number: 20140323982
Abstract: An actuation mechanism for an automatic injector includes a first actuation spring, a first actuation pill, a second actuation spring, and a second actuation pill. In an initial configuration the first actuation spring resides in a compressed, energized state substantially within an upper portion of first actuation pill and the second actuation spring resides in a compressed, energized state between the first actuation pill and the second actuation pill. An automatic injector includes a housing, an activation mechanism, an actuation mechanism, and a syringe cartridge having a plunger and a needle assembly. A retractable syringe may be utilized as a syringe cartridge, such as a prefilled retractable syringe with integrated safety features which retract the needle after use. The automatic injector may be utilized to inject the needle, deliver a drug treatment, and activate retraction of the needle. Methods of assembly and operation are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8487915
Abstract: A mobile device providing a mobile processing function such as a mobile telephone and/or a personal digital assistant. The mobile device includes a mobile device body, a processing system within the body, the processing system programmed to be part of providing the mobile processing function, a projector coupled to the body to project an image onto a substantially planar surface when the mobile device body is on the surface at a predetermined angle relative to the surface, and a pen-location transcription system coupled to the processing system to record the positions of a writing implement at a plurality of instants of time by transmitting energy between the writing implement and a device mechanically coupled to the mobile device body. In one version, the device mechanically coupled to the mobile device body is a sensor array including at least two sensors of the transmitted energy. The writing implement includes a transmitter of the transmitted energy.

  • Publication number: 20130060232
Abstract: An automatic mixing device, an actuating device removably mounted to the automatic mixing device and a retractable syringe having the automatic mixing device are provided. The actuating device has an initially compressed spring and a trigger member that initiates spring decompression to drive depression of a mixing plunger of the automatic mixing device. A seal located in the outer chamber is capable of axial movement upon depression of the mixing plunger, from a first position in sealing engagement with one or more apertures in an inner barrel to a second position intermediate the apertures and vents in an outer barrel. This allows depression of the mixing plunger to force a first substance from the outer chamber through the apertures to mix with a second substance in an inner chamber of the inner barrel. The mixed substance in the inner barrel is then delivered by the syringe with subsequent needle retraction.

  • Publication number: 20130035664
Abstract: A mixing device and a retractable syringe comprising same are provided. The mixing device comprises concentric outer and inner barrels that form an outer chamber, the inner barrel having an inner chamber. A mixing plunger is slidably located in the outer chamber. A seal located in the outer chamber is capable of axial movement, in response to depression of the mixing plunger, from a first position in sealing engagement with one or more apertures in the inner barrel to a second position intermediate the apertures and vents in the outer barrel. This allows depression of the mixing plunger to force a first substance from the outer chamber through the apertures to mix with a second substance in the inner chamber. The mixed substance in the inner barrel is then delivered by the syringe with subsequent needle retraction.

  • Patent number: 8110757
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for determining the location of a pointing device in the vicinity of a set of receivers able to receive one or more locating signals transmitted through a medium. The method includes receiving at a receiver a signal that includes a locating signal and an interfering signal, determining an estimated interference signal indicative of the interfering signal included in the signal received, determining a signal indicative of the difference between the received signal and the estimated interference signal, and using the signal indicative of the difference to compute the location of the pointing device on a surface near the set of receivers. One version uses a separate receiver from which to determine the estimated interference signal, while another version uses the received signal at a time when there is expected to be no locating signal present in order to determine the estimated interference signal. An adaptive filter computes the estimated interference signal.

  • Patent number: 5995487
Abstract: Method and apparatus for enhancing the ability of a subscriber to connect to a carrier network by enabling the service provider to indicate to the subscriber when a requested connection to the carrier network would utilize unguaranteed bandwidth and, absent objection by the subscriber, to complete the requested connection utilizing the unguaranteed bandwidth. Upon receipt of a request for set-up of a call of an indicated bandwidth, the service provider will acknowledge the call set-up request. The service provider will then issue a call proceeding message to indicate that the requested connection is being arranged. The call proceeding message will contain an unguaranteed bandwidth indicator if the carrier network cannot guarantee the requested bandwidth. If a cancellation of the call request is not received in response to the unguaranteed bandwidth indicator, the call will be completed.
