  • Patent number: 10739112
Abstract: An impulse dampening system reduces peak pressure and impulse acoustic pressures of an acoustic wave to a level that permits initiation of an emergency egress system by personnel in a submerged/flooded cockpit following landing or crashing into water. Initiation of the emergency egress system is available in the air or after the aircraft is in the water. The system attenuates the impulse of the acoustic wave at least 35 dB, where the acoustic wave is usually produced when a detonation chord is initiated. The system includes a first layer of dampening media, a second layer of dampening media, a viscous lensing medium between the layers, and a hard shell.

  • Patent number: 8230770
Abstract: An apparatus to remove, energetically, a ballistic tolerant window. The elements include a ballistic tolerant fillet, which extends from the periphery of the ballistic tolerant window. Proximate to a perimeter of the fillet is a plurality of apertures that match up with holes on a tubular frame. The frame and fillet are joined using fastening elements, which are fitted in the holes and apertures. The tubular frame is a polygonal tube having sides useful for mounting the frame to an airframe and for mounting an expanding energetic element with a detonating cord. The energetic element is mounted on the frame adjacent to the fastening elements. When the energetic element is detonated, the explosive force is sufficient to cause the window to separate, energetically, from the tubular frame.

  • Patent number: 8061656
Abstract: A hinge apparatus for automated decoupling that includes an actuatable assembly normally coupled, very robust, and suitable for the hanging of a door/canopy and the like. When mounted, the apparatus is normally decoupled where rapid egress is necessary, and complete removal of the door/canopy is desired. The apparatus includes a hinge finger with a finger pin and a reciprocal hinge finger with a hinge gudgeon. The finger pin normally intersects and freely pivots with respect to the gudgeon, such as when the door/canopy is opened or closed. The actuatable assembly employs a SMDC tip device to actuate a piston that decouples the hinge. Decoupling is effected as the piston linearly shifts moving the hinge finger such that the finger pin no longer intersects the gudgeon and the door/canopy falls away.
