  • Patent number: 9879650
Abstract: A system and method for a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) is described which can provide the basis for a new and improved wind turbine design suitable for a range of different power classes such as from 4 kilowatts to 10 megawatts. A vertical blade of chord length C is attached to a central hub via a main support strut of chord length C. The main support strut comprises two sections: a blade-support-section and a counterweight-support-section. Both the blade-support-section and the counter-weight-support-section have a blunt leading edge and a tapered trailing edge with the profile reversing either side of the hub axis. Two control struts comprising aerodynamic profiles support the blade wherein one control strut connects to the upper surface of the main support strut and the other control strut connects to the lower surface of the main support strut hub. The main support strut and the control struts provide lift to the wind turbine and reduce drag.

  • Publication number: 20130295241
Abstract: A system for packaging forming a container can provide an improved form of food packaging. The container includes a base element and at least two lateral side elements, and forms a tray element. The tray element defines an open cavity for containing contents, and has a back and front edge. At least one of the lateral side elements has at least one moveable element integrated with, and forming an extension of, the lateral side element at a first fixed end of the moveable element(s). The moveable element(s) is/are capable of being folded into the cavity and around the contents, and is of a length such that the second, free end of the moveable element(s) extend(s) around the contents to the front edge of the tray element. The second free end is capable of being pulled to cause the contents to move towards the front edge of the tray element.

  • Publication number: 20100054530
Abstract: A system and method for data acquisition and processing is described which can form the basis of new and improved business and consumer services. Encoded datagram images are captured using a mobile phone or PDA or fixed line device and processed to determine authorisation and level of access to remote data services then transmitted to a remote data processing centre. The captured datagram may comprise a variety of geometric shapes and language characters and even some custom graphics such as the use of a corporate logo incorporated into a datagram structure. The method makes possible payment transactions which link the authentication of the mobile phone subscriber to pre-registered credit facilities such as credit card companies which enables the purchase of music or a software game without requiring the mobile operator to become a general financial credit service.

  • Patent number: 7190963
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for performing frequency synchronization of a base station, and to a network part. In the method, the following operations are performed: maintaining a reference clock in a network element of the cellular radio network; generating a time stamp signal in the reference clock; transferring the time stamp signal from the network element to the base station over an asynchronous data transmission connection; calculating on the basis of the transferred time stamp signal how much the time by the local clock at the base station deviates from the time by the reference clock; generating a speed correction factor for the local clock on the basis of at least one calculated deviation; correcting the running of the local clock with the speed correction factor; and generating the frequencies needed at the base station by using the local clock corrected with the speed correction factor.

  • Patent number: 5051741
Abstract: A locating system and method in which a network of communication stations are spread over a surveillance area. Each moveable element is provided with a transponder having an associated identification code. A paging signal sent out over the surveillance area is picked up by the transponders and the one with the identification code provided in the page responds. The response is made at a frequency different from the page. The response is picked up by the nearest communication stations. A master station communicates with the communication stations at a frequency different from that used by the paging signal or the transponder. The master station which interrogates all the communication stations locates the paged transponder to within a sector bordered by the communication stations that received the response from the transponder. The communication stations can be subdivided into three or more interspersed arrays.
