    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 10, 2011
Date of Patent: July 28, 2020
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Christopher K. Palazzolo, Darren Sipila, Steve Poe, Philip D. Cierpial, Changsheng Gan
  • Patent number: 9664138
Abstract: A cylinder block is provided. The cylinder block includes a cylinder, two crankshaft supports at a bottom of the cylinder block, a cylinder head engaging surface at a top of the cylinder block, and first and second exterior sidewalls, the first exterior sidewall extending from the cylinder head engaging surface to a first structural frame engaging surface positioned above a centerline of the two crankshaft supports.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 10, 2011
Date of Patent: May 30, 2017
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Christopher K. Palazzolo, Darren Sipila, Steve Poe, Philip D. Cierpial, Changsheng Gan
  • Patent number: 9074553
Abstract: A cylinder block assembly is provided. The cylinder block assembly includes a cylinder block including a cylinder, two crankshaft supports at a bottom of the cylinder block, first and second cylinder block exterior sidewalls ending above a centerline of the two crankshaft supports. The cylinder block assembly further includes a structural frame coupled to the cylinder block, the structural frame including first and second structural frame exterior sidewalls extending above the centerline of the two crankshaft supports and coupled to the first and second cylinder block exterior sidewalls.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 8919301
Abstract: A cylinder block including a cylinder and two crankshaft supports at a bottom of the cylinder block is described. The cylinder block may be coupled to a structural frame such that the cylinder block is lubricated through the structural frame. The cylinder block may reduce vehicle weight and cost.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 10, 2011
Date of Patent: December 30, 2014
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC

  • Patent number: 5325826
Abstract: A mechanism for providing a continuous supply of oil on camshaft lobes used in an overhead cam internal combustion engine. The mechanism includes camshaft bearing caps affixed to the engine about the camshaft journals. Protruding from the side surface of the central portion of the bearing caps are oil diverter pads. The oil diverter pads cause oil that builds up on the surface of the camshaft journals to be diverted toward the camshaft lobes to provide lubrication between the camshaft lobes and the roller finger followers.
