  • Patent number: 11278716
Abstract: An electrode array includes a body portion, at least one tail portion, at least one tissue surface contact, and at least one intratissue contact. The electrode array can provide stimulation or record signals from both the surface of a target tissue and within the target tissue. A system for tissue surface and intratissue signal recording and/or stimulation contains an electrode array, a controller or receiver, and at least one connection between the electrode array and the controller or receiver. A method of recording signals and/or stimulating tissue includes contacting the target tissue surface and target tissue interior with an electrode array and providing or recording an electrical, chemical, or optical signal.

Assignee: THE CHARLES STARK DRAPER LABORATORY, INC.
Inventors: Jesse J. Wheeler, John R. Burns, IV, John Lachapelle, Caroline K. Bjune, Philip D. Parks, II
  • Patent number: 11278715
Abstract: A lead assembly for networked implants may contain a controller, an implantable tissue contact system connected to the controller and including a plurality of leads, and a breakout connector connected to each of the plurality of leads, and further connected to a shared communication path. A physiological interface system may contain a controller and an implantable tissue contact system. Methods of treating a subject and monitoring a subject include transmitting signals between a controller and an implantable tissue contact system.

  • Publication number: 20180249953
Abstract: This invention provides systems and methods for using spatially localized sensor data to construct a multi-dimensional map of the location of key anatomical features, as well as systems and methods for utilizing this map to present location-based information to the surgeon and/or to an automated surgical navigation system. The location map is updated during surgery, so as to retain accuracy even in the presence of muscle-induced motion or deformation of the anatomy, as well as tissue location changes induced by translations or deformations induced by surgical dissection, surgical instrument contact, or biologically-induced tissue motion associated with activities such as respiration, anesthesia-induced gag reflex, blood flow/pulsation, and/or larger-scale changes in patient posture/positioning.

  • Publication number: 20170119250
Abstract: A fundoscopy system comprises a fixture supporting optics configured to be mounted to a surface of a smartphone and align the optics with a pupil of a camera of the smartphone and to align a light guide with an illumination source of the smartphone. The light guide is configured to direct light from the illumination source into an eye of a subject disposed in front of the fixture. The fixture is further configured to direct light reflected from a retina of the eye through the optics and into the pupil of the camera of the smartphone.
